Gun Activist Adam Kokesh Arrested in Herndon

Residents report helicopter buzzing overhead.

UPDATE: Adam Kokesh was arrested after the search was conducted on his home, Herndon Police confirmed.

Police blocked off local roads late Tuesday night to serve a search warrant at the home of Adam Kokesh, a pro-gun activist who earlier this year threatened to lead a July 4th armed march to Washington, D.C., and was seen recently on YouTube loading a shotgun in Freedom Plaza.

Herndon police confirmed that they were involved in "activities in the area" and residents reported to Patch that a helicopter had been flying overhead for about 45 minutes.

FOX 5 reported that it had confirmed the warrant was being served by Herndon police and U.S. Park police.

The station reported on its web site that roads have been blocked off near the area in the 1500 block of Snow Flake Court and that residents have been told to stay indoors while police serve the warrant.

Kokesh gained attention to his anti-government views by organizing a series of marches into Washington from Arlington, but backed away from those plans when police in the district said they would confront him and his supporters.

Firearm laws in Washington are among the strictest in the country. Guns must be registered and it's generally against the law to display weapons in public.

In the YouTube video, which appeared on CNN, Kokesh, a former Marine, appears to load red shells into a pump-action shotgun while addressing the camera in Freedom Plaza, which is U.S. parkland.

Kokesh said, "We will not be silent. We will not obey. We will not allow our government to destroy our humanity."

In a press release announcing the cancellation of the 2013 march on Washington, Media Matters reported, Kokesh hinted at 2014 plans, writing, "Should one whole year from this July 4th pass while the crimes of this government are allowed to continue, we may have passed the point at which non-violent revolution becomes impossible."
