Herndon Crime Report: Armed Robbery, Assault With Machete, Man Strangles Woman

Also, a juvenile is charged with felony assault of a Herndon police officer.

Herndon Police had a few major incidents of note for the last week of September in town, including an armed robbery that has yielded five arrests and counting, a man who tried to stab an associate with a machete, and a man who strangled the mother of his child.


Armed Robbery, Sept. 24: 
Herndon Police reported an armed robbery occurred in the 1400 block of Summerset Place, in which several subjects forced their way into a home and robbed the residents at gunpoint.

It appears the robbery is gang-related.

"Herndon Police Department's investigations section, along with the Northern Virginia Regional Gang Task Force, have made five arrests," police said in their report. "More arrests are pending."

Police said more details will be forthcoming following the conclusion of the investigation.


Attempted Malicious Wounding, Sept. 29: An argument between two men took an ugly turn when one pulled a machete on the other.

Herndon Police reported an argument broke out between two associates in the 700 block of Alabama Drive near Florida Avenue. 

One of the two men, Walter Ruano, then pulled out a machete and attempted to stab the other with it.

Police were called, and Ruano was arrested and charged with attempted malicious wounding. He was held on a $5,000 bond.


Aggravated Assault, Juvenile, Sept. 29: A 17-year-old juvenile was arrested in the 600 block of Dulles Park Court for domestic assault, felony assault on a law enforcement officer, and underage possession of alcohol.


Aggravated Assault, Sept. 29: Herndon Police were called to the 1200 block of Elden Street with 21-year-old Jose Donaldo Hernandez Soriano allegedly strangled the mother of his child. The victim survived by sustained visible injuries. Hernandez Soriano was arrested for aggravated assault and held on $2,000 bond.
