Herndon Gears Up for Fourth of July Celebrations

The Town of Herndon is planning its Fourth of July Fireworks show for 2013. See the full schedule here.

Independence Day is almost upon us, and the Town of Herndon is once again prepping to make it a year to remember.

This year's celebration is slated to take place at Bready Park, 814 Ferndale Ave., beginning at 6:30 p.m.

The Parks and Recreation Department is planning an evening of festivities, including children's arts and crafts, bingo, and games.

For dinner, attendees can bring a picnic, or food can be purchased at the event.

Of course, no 4th of July celebration would be complete without fireworks. The Town says another great fireworks show is planned for after dark, and will be synchronized to music.

Town of Herndon Mayor Lisa Merkel says the local 4th of July celebrations is one of her favorite events all year, and she loves how it brings the whole town together.

"The 4th of July celebration is one of the many events that give Herndon that small-town feel, that's cherished by so many," she told Patch.

"Parks and Rec really does a great job organizing the family activities and entertainment, and we hope to see many friends and neighbors at Bready Park for the fireworks and fun!" she added.

Parking

Town staff warns that, since this event is so popular, parking is always limited, and fills up fast.

Attendees are encouraged to "skip the hassle" and use the plentiful parking at both Herndon Middle School, 901 Locust Street, and at the Herndon Community Center, right next door to Bready Park at 814 Ferndale.
