Photos: Herndon Celebrates Chanukah in the Town Square

Families enjoyed traditional songs, donuts and latkes, and the giant menorah was lit in front of Old Town Hall.

At least 50 people came out Sunday night to celebrate Chanukah in the Town Square, in front of Old Town Hall.

Rabbi Leibel Fajnland of Chabad Reston-Herndon led a short celebration of traditional Chanukah songs with the crowd, and handed out chocolate gold and silver coins, miniature dreidels and candles to the crowd.

Members of the Nachman family of Herndon were invited to help light the first five candles of the menorah—one for each night of Chanukah, which officially began Wednesday night.

After the menorah was lit and traditional songs sung, families hung around to enjoy latkes and donuts, with Chanukah-themed crafts for the children.
