Executive Director Position at the Herndon Foundation for the Cultural Arts

The Herndon Foundation for the Cultural Arts dba ArtSpace Herndon is seeking a dynamic and experienced leader to advance the mission and agenda of our organization.  The Executive Director will serve as the Chief Operating Officer of the Foundation, working closely with and reporting to the President and the Board of Directors. The Executive Director will direct and administer all programs and operations while supervising other part-time staff, volunteers, and contract positions

Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Planning - Implements the Foundation's strategic and annual action plans as directed by the Board.
  • Program Development and Management - Works with the board committees to implement, document, and measure high-quality exhibits, programs, and events.
  • Governance - Serves as an ex-officio member of the Board of Directors.
  • Administration - Provides general management of all Foundation activities, manages the day-to-day operations of ArtSpace Herndon
  • Financial Management - With the treasurer and board committees, develops and presents to the Board of Directors for approval the annual budget in January each year.
  • Fundraising - Working with the Board's Development Committee, develops fundraising activities including the solicitation and management of grants, corporate sponsorships, and individual giving.
  • Marketing - Working with the board committees directs effective marketing, communication and publicity efforts for all activities, exhibitions, programs, and events.
  • Community Relations and Advocacy - Serves as spokesperson as authorized by the board for the Foundation.
  • Facilities Management - Manages all facility needs including security and maintenance, equipment, facility rentals, and gallery scheduling.
  • Legal Compliance - Assures the filing of all legal and regulatory documents and monitors compliance with relevant laws and regulations.

Experience/Qualifications:

  • A Bachelors' Degree with at least five years of management experience preferably in a non-profit organization.
  • Demonstrated experience as a relationship manager and team builder in a volunteer environment.
  • Proven record as a fundraiser.
  • Effective interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with all sectors of the community.
  • A high level of initiative, creativity, and ability to produce results.
  • Must be computer literate and able to work with assurance in Word, Excel and web based applications in a PC environment.
