Photos: Potter's Fire Celebrates Grand Opening in Downtown Herndon

The studio offers handcrafted pottery items in three different product lines, as well lets customers help design custom items.

Town and state officials, local business owners, members of the arts community, the Chamber of Commerce and more were on hand for a stylish grand opening Thursday afternoon at one of downtown Herndon's newest businesses, Potter's Fire.

Potter's Fire is the dream business of Rose and Mike Faul. Rose is a teacher at Herndon High School, and Mike used to run a marketing agency out of the space that is now home to his new, unique pottery studio. The couple lives in Reston.

Potter's Fire is truly a one-of-a-kind business. Not only can customers shop for high-quality pottery items such as coffee mugs, steins, vases and more, but customers can also request custom items and even have a hand in dreaming up the design of a desired item before Mike or one of his other potters handcraft it.

Potter's Fire has three unique products lines:

  • The Heritage line features a number of products that bear the seals and regimental crests of the branches of the military and other such first responders.
  • The Agape line, from the Greek word for "abundant love," is a custom line for gifts of love, such as for weddings and anniversaries. Couples can help design their own wedding dinnerware and other items and then "register" for items with the custom design through Potter's Fire.
  • The third and final line is the Artisan line, which will feature all manner of products that Faul creates on his own, such as coffee mugs, steins, sculptures, garden fountains and more.

Guests at Thursday's grand opening were treated to catered food served by a wait staff and a stocked bar, and tours of the pottery and design studios, located at 797-B Center St. in downtown.

Special guests included Delegate Tom Rust (R-Herndon), Mayor Lisa Merkel, Councilmembers Sheila Olem and Dave Kirby, Dulles Regional Chamber of Commerce President Eileen Curtis, Council for the Arts of Herndon Chair Signe Freidrichs and many more.

Potter's Fire's website at www.pottersfire.com will be up and running very soon. For more information or to make an appointment with Mike Faul, e-mail info@pottersfire.com or call the studio at 571-384-2736.
