New Restaurant Slated to Open Soon in Herndon

Mmmm....this restaurant is so close to opening, you can almost smell the mushrooms, cheese and baked dough already.

Mellow Mushroom Pizza will soon be making its debut in Herndon at 1030 Elden Street, formerly home to Fuddrucker's.

Pooja Mehta and her brother Amit, co-owners of the forthcoming restaurant, already own a sister location in downtown D.C., and can't wait to open their second location in Herndon soon, in just a couple of weeks. She said they have completely renovated the former Fuddrucker's space.

Pooja said, though of course Mellow Mushroom will serve up some of the best pizza around, it also has many other offerings that they think their Herndon-area diners wil love.

"We're primarily known for our pizza, but we have a lot of different options. So we can please any palate," she said.

Mellow Mushroom's menu will feature items like their specialty pizzas - all with far-out names like Cosmic Karma and Philosopher's Pie - along with gluten-free and vegan options, and expanded menu items like fresh soft-baked pretzels and calzones, sandwiches, grilled and deli-style hoagies, salads and more.

Their dough is particularly special, Pooja said.

"Our dough is definitely what we're most famous for," she said. "The dough has a little bit of springwater in it, and a touch of sweetness and carmelized flavor to it. And it's all made and hand-tossed to order."

Pooja said, the restaurant will be very kid-friendly as well.

Also unique about Mellow Mushroom's offerings is the beer menu. Pooja said, at any one time the restaurant will have up to 30 different beers on tap and in bottles. For enthusiastic beer aficionados, Pooja said once a customer has tried 80 or more of the restaurant's different beers, they are automatically enrolled in the Beer Club, which earns them specials and discounts.

Locals only have to wait a couple more weeks to try all of this, Pooja said - their grand opening is slated for mid-July.

"All signs point to July 15 as the opening day," the Mehtas said on their Facebook page this week.

In the meantime, customers are encouraged to "like" Mellow Mushroom Herndon's Facebook page to keep up-to-date on the finalized opening.
