DWI, License Checkpoint in Herndon Friday

DWI checkpoint starts at 8:30 p.m. Friday.

The Town of Herndon Police Department will conduct a driving while intoxicated/drivers license checkpoint from 8:30 p.m. Friday until 3 a.m. Saturday. 

The police department is conducting the checkpoint to deter and apprehend intoxicated drivers. 

Motorists stopped for suspicion of driving while intoxicated will be checked to make sure their ability to drive hasn't been impaired by alcohol or drugs. Police will also be checking driver's licenses to ensure compliance with the law.

The Herndon Police Department says it is committed to ensuring the safety of town residents and roadways, especially during the holiday season.

On average, 25 people were killed in alcohol-impaired-driving crashes per day during December 2010, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The Herndon Police Department is continuing its efforts to reduce the number of people killed an injured in alcohol related crashes. DWI checkpoints are conducted to find and identify offenders and get them off the street. They also help educate the public on the dangers of impaired driving.
