A multitude of owners from 1776 until 1963 inhabited the earliest house built in what became the incorporated limits of the Town of Herndon. Frequently misspelled as the “Eldon” house, the house on the Elden Farm may have received its name from the John and Mary McKelden, who owned the house from 1856 to 1866.

The name Elden graced a street along the Elden Farm property and today is the main thoroughfare through the town.

My grandson inquired as to why Elden Street is named that instead of Main St. because it does seem to be Herndon's main street. I thought perhaps you'd know.
