Herndon Police Report: Residence Broken Into on Florida Avenue

Herndon Police report a Florida Avenue residence was broken into and a laptop, backpack, iPod and Xbox 360 were stolen.

The Herndon Police Department reported the following incidents from Dec. 10 through Dec. 16, 2012. The following information was supplied by the Herndon Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.  BRUIN DISTRICT • The victim reported their residence was broken into between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. and a laptop, backpack, iPod and Xbox 360 were reported stolen on Dec. 11 in the 500 block of Florida Avenue. • The victim reported their bicycle was stolen from outside their residence between 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Dec. 10 in the 600 block of Center Street. • The victim reported the windshield of their vehicle was damaged at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 10 near the intersection of Palmer Drive and Dogwood …

Holiday Safety Tips from the Herndon Police Department

Tips for driving, shopping and at home.

The Herndon Police Department's Crime Prevention Section has gathered a number of holiday safety tips for area residents.  During the holidays it's important to be aware of theft and holiday related crime.  WHILE DRIVING: • Avoid driving alone or at night.  • Keep your car doors locked and windows closed. • Park in well lit areas if you need to shop at night. • Avoid parking near vans, trucks with camper shells and cars with tinted windows.  • Park as close as you can to the doors of your destination, and notice where you parked. • Don't leave your car unoccupied with the motor running.  • Don't leave packages or valuables, such as GPS systems, laptops and iPods, where they can be seen by those walking by your vehicle. • When returning to …

DWI, License Checkpoint in Herndon Friday

DWI checkpoint starts at 8:30 p.m. Friday.

The Town of Herndon Police Department will conduct a driving while intoxicated/drivers license checkpoint from 8:30 p.m. Friday until 3 a.m. Saturday.  The police department is conducting the checkpoint to deter and apprehend intoxicated drivers.  Motorists stopped for suspicion of driving while intoxicated will be checked to make sure their ability to drive hasn't been impaired by alcohol or drugs. Police will also be checking driver's licenses to ensure compliance with the law.  The Herndon Police Department says it is committed to ensuring the safety of town residents and roadways, especially during the holiday season. On average, 25 people were killed in alcohol-impaired-driving crashes per day during December 2010, according to the …

Herndon Police Seek Suspects in 7-Eleven Robbery

Gunshot fired during robbery; no injuries reported.

The Herndon Police Department is asking for the public's help in finding two men suspected of robbing the 7-Eleven at 1115 Crestview Drive.  The two men entered the 7-Eleven at about 11:19 p.m. on Thursday and Suspect 1 pointed a handgun at the 7-Eleven employees, attempting to get them to open the cash register.  Suspect 1 then fired a shot while the employees were trying to open the register. No one was injured. Suspect 2 acted as the lookout at the front door of the business during the robbery.  Once the employees handed over an undisclosed amount of money, both suspects fled the store.  Suspect 1 is described as a light-skinned male, 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall, 25-30 years old, medium build, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and …

I assume that "light-skinned" means that the perps were just that, light-skinned. There are many variations in peoples' colorations - from pinkish white, fair, nicely tanned, any number of brown hues into black. Mr. Sarson, at least you know, from the description, that you don't have to look for any dark skinned robbers.   more ›

Herndon Police Report: Subject Attempts to Shoplift Television

Someone attempted to shoplift a television from a business in the 400 block of Elden Street on Oct. 26.

The Herndon Police Department reported the following incidents from Oct. 22 through Oct. 28, 2012. The following information was supplied by the Herndon Police Department. Herndon Hosts Public Safety Day

Saturday will be Public Safety Day in downtown Herndon.

Families can learn more about safety this Saturday in downtown Herndon.  The Herndon Police Department will host Public Safety Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m Saturday at the Herndon Municipal Center, 777 Lynn St. The event wil include fingerprinting and identification photos for children, meet and greets with the Herndon K-9 team and vehicles, child safety seat checks and installations, trick-or-treating for children and an appearance by McGruff the Crime Dog.  Photo identification and fingerprinting helps provide the police with vital information to help them find missing children.
