The man evaded Fairfax County Police and ran into Herndon on April 17, prompting an inter-agency search with Herndon police.
The Herndon Police Department revealed the identity of the man who evaded County police and prompted a short manhunt on April 17. Terrance O. Malloy, 20, of Washington, D.C., was wanted for unlawful entry into a home. Fairfax County Police were surveilling him on April 17 when he detected the officers and took off into Herndon. The County police enlisted the help of the Herndon Police Department in searching for him. A brief manhunt lasted about 15 minutes before Herndon police officers caught Malloy and helped County police take him into custody. A subject accidentally discharged a weapon inside their home on Jan. 30 in the 2100 block of Highcourt Lane.

Two men allegedly attempted to rob a woman early Sunday on Alabama Drive. One of them is in custody, but to locate the other, police need your help.
Herndon Police are asking for the public’s help in locating the second suspect in a Sunday robbery on Alabama Drive. Police say a woman was walking around 3:30 a.m. Sunday in the 1200 block of Alabama Drive when she saw two men nearby. She moved away from the men but was followed. Then, the pair approached her. One of the men allegedly pointed his hand at the woman as if he were holding a gun and demanded her purse. The woman told police he attempted to grab her purse off of her shoulders but she was able to pull away and run. Matt Nielsen had never had an issue selling items on Craigslist — until his recent attempt to sell an old iPhone went wrong. Now, the Fairfax County Public Schools teacher is warning neighbors and other residents to protect themselves from thieves who troll Craigslist for robbery opportunities. Nielsen had sold a few items on Craigslist before, and decided it might be a good place to sell an old phone no longer in use. Herndon Police say man allegedly held his victims at gunpoint between Jan. 22 and Jan. 30.
Herndon Police arrested a man Thursday who allegedly robbed a woman at gunpoint on at a hotel on Elden Street — and possibly two other victims in similar crimes this week elsewhere in Fairfax County. Police said Friday they arrested 27-year-old Kenan M. Ozcan of Arlington in connection with the incidents. He is being held with no bond at the Fairfax County jail, facing charges of armed robbery and use of a firearm in connection with a felony from both the Herndon and Fairfax County Police Departments. Unidentified body discovered near Herndon Parkway and Tamarack Way.

In December, U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement announced it would end the 287(g) program in Herndon and several other jurisdictions to focus on more effective types of enforcement for removing criminal illegal immigrants from the country. The program allowed local law enforcement to question those suspected of crimes about their legal status and detain or arrest those here illegally, potentially leading to their deportation. Two officers were promoted to the rank of sergeant and six were promoted to corporal.
The Herndon Police Department promoted eight officers in a historical promotional ceremony on Dec. 18, 2012. The event was the largest promotional ceremony in Herndon's 133 year history, as two corporals were promoted to sergeant and six officers were promoted to corporal. According to a press release from the HPD, the police department, and its Chief of Police Maggie DeBoard, are preparing for the future by restructuring the corporals career development program. The program will go from an appointment to a permanent position, partially because of pending future retirements and attrition.
