Laptop allegedly stolen at gunpoint in December sale set up on Craigslist.
Detectives from the Herndon Police Department said Wednesday they arrested a suspect in connection with a Craigslist-related robbery in December. Mohamed Darseidia, 25, of Sterling, was arrested and charged with robbery and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony for his alleged involvement in the case, police said. Herndon Police said on Dec. 27, the owner of a Mac Pro laptop was attempting to sell the computer to someone he met through Craigslist. He went to meet the possible buyer to sell the laptop in the 1000 block of Elden Street. Two men allegedly attempted to rob a woman early Sunday on Alabama Drive. One of them is in custody, but to locate the other, police need your help.
Herndon Police are asking for the public’s help in locating the second suspect in a Sunday robbery on Alabama Drive. Police say a woman was walking around 3:30 a.m. Sunday in the 1200 block of Alabama Drive when she saw two men nearby. She moved away from the men but was followed. Then, the pair approached her. One of the men allegedly pointed his hand at the woman as if he were holding a gun and demanded her purse. The woman told police he attempted to grab her purse off of her shoulders but she was able to pull away and run. Two Herndon police officers on foot patrol in the 1100 block of Elden Street heard the woman screaming for help and ran to locate her. They were able to take one of the men into custody. Matt Nielsen had never had an issue selling items on Craigslist — until his recent attempt to sell an old iPhone went wrong. Now, the Fairfax County Public Schools teacher is warning neighbors and other residents to protect themselves from thieves who troll Craigslist for robbery opportunities. Nielsen had sold a few items on Craigslist before, and decided it might be a good place to sell an old phone no longer in use. Herndon Police say man allegedly held his victims at gunpoint between Jan. 22 and Jan. 30.
Herndon Police arrested a man Thursday who allegedly robbed a woman at gunpoint on at a hotel on Elden Street — and possibly two other victims in similar crimes this week elsewhere in Fairfax County. Police said Friday they arrested 27-year-old Kenan M. Ozcan of Arlington in connection with the incidents. He is being held with no bond at the Fairfax County jail, facing charges of armed robbery and use of a firearm in connection with a felony from both the Herndon and Fairfax County Police Departments. Tory J. Marshall, 33, of Herndon, was found dead Saturday by someone on the walking path on Tamarack Way, police said.
The man found dead near a Herndon apartment building on Saturday has been identified as 33-year-old Tory J. Marshall. Marshall, a Herndon resident, was found by someone on the walking path in the 700 block of Tamarack Way, off of Herndon Parkway. Herndon Police say the investigation revealed alcohol may have been a factor. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined the cause of death to be hypothermia.
