Dress Up Herndon for the Holidays Lights Up the Town

Grab some cocoa and pile in the car tonight to check out these holiday lights before Santa comes!

The holiday season is ON in Herndon, if the results of the annual “Dress Up Herndon for the Holidays” decoration contest are any indication. Displays of festive creativity can be found throughout the town.  Judges from the town’s Cultivating Community Initiative circulated throughout Herndon’s neighborhoods on Dec. 17, evaluating and then naming eight homes as contest winners. Winners were presented with a festive sign, suitable for display, and will be formally recognized by the Mayor and Herndon Town Council at the January 15, 2013, public hearing. “This contest is a fabulous way to build community and to celebrate the season in Herndon,” said Mayor Lisa Merkel. “I encourage everyone to pile the kids, family and friends in the car and …

Herndon Hometown Holidays: Model Train Show & More

Still time to enter Herndon's Dress Up Herndon for the Holidays and Patch's Deck the House contests.

This weekend's annual Holiday Model Train Show will take place both Saturday and Sunday for children of all ages as well as kids-at-heart to enjoy.  The display will be open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday in the Herndon Municipal Center, 777 Lynn St.  Model trains will be set up throughout the upper floor of the HMC for viewing. Additionally, the red W&OD caboose adjacent to the building will be open for tours from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.  The Herndon Depot Museum on Lynn Street will also be open for tours throughout the event.  The event is free and open to the public. Nominate Your Neighbors for 'Dress Up Herndon for the Holidays'

Deck your halls with themes like classical, whimsical, creative and more.

Town of Herndon residents are busy decking the halls, hanging wreaths, stringing lights and decorating their homes for the holidays.  They're also invited to nominate their own or their neighbors' homes for the annual Dress Up Herndon for the Holidays neighborhood decoration contest. The contest is sponsored by the town's Cultivating Community Initiative.  The contest is open to all residents in the Town of Herndon limits. Nominations should be submtted to information@herndon-va.gov or to 703-435-6800 extention 2084 by Friday, Dec. 14.  The judging panel for the contest includes volunteer members of the Cultivating Community Committee. They will travel throughout the town on the evening of Monday, Dec. 17 to determine contest winners. …
