8,400 New Jobs Committed to Fairfax County in 2012

The Fairfax County Economic Development Authority said 186 companies committed business to Fairfax County last year; more than 700 of the jobs were pledged to Tysons.

The Fairfax County Economic Development Authority brought more than 8,400 jobs to the county in 2012, it announced this week — the majority of them in the professional services and information technology sectors and many in the Tysons area. According to the FCEDA, Tysons will welcome almost 730 of the 8,400 jobs. In Herndon, Micronic Technologies, Questa Source, LLC, TATA Communications Ltd., and URS Corporation all added jobs to the local economy.  IntelSat, leading provider in satellite services, was the year’s biggest announcement, moving almost 430 employees to its new headquarters in Tysons’ new Tysons Tower. State of the County: Fairfax's Future Is Development

In annual address, Board of Supervisors Chairman Sharon Bulova warns sequestration could impact revenues, is making business owners delay decisions.

Revitalization and development will drive Fairfax County's economy in 2013 and beyond, Board of Supervisors Chairman Sharon Bulova said in her annual state of the county address Wednesday. Talking to members of the media Wednesday morning, Bulova said massive development projects in Tysons, Merrifield and Springfield will create "bright days and years ahead" — but the threat of sequestration was also making business owners hesitant to commit to a relocation or expansion in the county.  “Fairfax County’s future is in development,” Bulova said in her statement. “Aging commercial centers near mass transit, like Tysons, present especially valuable opportunities for attractive, transit-oriented mixed-use revitalization.” The county is hoping …

Board of Supervisors to Hear Environmental, Tysons Issues

The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors will hear a presentation from the Private Sector Energy Task Force Tuesday detailing how the county can begin to become greener and energy efficient. The task force, which is chaired by Leo Schefer, president of the Washington Airports Task Force, is expected to make a series of recommendations to supervisors. The recommendations may include mapping out how the county intends to meet its goal of a carbon-neutral Tysons Corner by 2030. The task froce also support incentives for property owners to invest in sustainable and green improvements to new and existing buildings in the county.
