Herndon Police Report: Restaurant Patrons Leave Without Paying Bill

Herndon Police reported a group of restaurant patrons left without paying their bill on March 3 in the 13000 block of Worldgate Drive.

The Herndon Police Department reported the following incidents from Feb. 25 through March 3, 2013. The following information was supplied by the Herndon Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.  BRUIN DISTRICT • A 32-year-old Herndon woman was arrested for assault at 7:10 p.m. on March 1 in the 400 block of Spruce Court. • A group of restaurant patrons left without paying their bill at 10:25 p.m. on March 3 in the 13000 block of Worldgate Drive. • A 33-year-old Herndon man was issued a summons for possession of marijuana at 1:09 a.m. on Feb. 27 near the intersection of Worldgate Drive and Wiltshire Lane. • Graffiti was reported found in the area at 9:30 a.m. on Feb. 28 in the 500 block …

Herndon Area Snow Related Closures

Let us know if you hear of a new business or government closing due to weather in the Herndon area.

We're keeping track of a rolling list of closures. This article will be updated with new closures as they come in, with the most recent ones at the top. Update - 3/5, 11:15 a.m.: Fairfax County government offices and services will close at noon today. Emergency personnel are still required to report for duty. Herndon Police Report: Two Men Arrested for Cocaine Possession

A Hyattsville man and a Herndon man were arrested for possession of cocaine on Feb. 18 in the 600 block of Dulles Park Court.

The Herndon Police Department reported the following incidents from Feb. 18 to Feb. 24, 2013. The following information was supplied by the Herndon Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.  BRUIN DISTRICT • The victim reported that between the hours of 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. an unknown subject entered their residence and stole a television, video game system, DVDs and video games on Feb. 21 in the 2100 block of Wilkes Court. • The victim reported that between 7 p.m. and 7:45 p.m. a subject broke into their locker at a fitness center and stole their backpack, headphones, clothing and car keys on Feb. 18 in the 13000 block of Worldgate Drive. • The victim reports that between 5 p.m. on Feb. 17 …

Herndon Town Council Preview: HHS Cheer, 2014 Budget & More

The Herndon High School varsity co-ed cheer team will be honored by the Town Council on Tuesday.

Honoring the Herndon High School varsity co-ed cheer team and the 2014 budget are on the Herndon Town Council's public hearing agenda for Tuesday evening.  The Council will be collecting input on the 2014 budget from Herndon residents and business owners, who are encouraged to comment on town services and programs they find valuable.  Also on the agenda is an ordinance for rezoning at the Vinehaven development on the the northwest corner of the intersection of Vine and Center streets. The land is currently zoned central commercial and the landowners are seeking to rezone to planned development-downtown. The developer is seeking to build 17 single-family homes on the land. The homes will include a variety of models, including those with …

Herndon Festival Praised in Recreation Management Magazine

Herndon Festival lauded for its volunteer force and growth.

The Town of Herndon's Herndon Festival received recognition as one of the country's "fantastic festivals" in a new Recreation Management magazine article on making community programs special. The focus of the article is on what it takes to create effective community programs that result in bringing the community together and creating rewarding connections and relationships.  The Town of Herndon is highlighted for having well-trained and well-informed volunteers helping provide the manpower behind Herndon Festival.  Herndon Parks and Rec Marketing Specialist Jacqui Matthews spoke with the magazine. She said more than 1,000 volunteer hours go into producing the Herndon Festival, which celebrates its 33rd year this spring.  The festival's …

Volunteers Needed for Historic Mosby's Raid Reenactment

The event takes place on on St. Patrick's Day in downtown Herndon.

Organizers of the St. Patrick's Day Mosby’s Herndon Station Raid Reenactment are seeking volunteers to help out with the event.  The reenactment begins at 11 a.m. and ends at 2 p.m. on March 17 in downtown Herndon. Col. John Singleton Mosby and his Rangers will ride into town to recreate his surprise attack on the First Vermont Cavalry at the Herndon Depot.  The Herndon Historical Society and the Herndon Chamber of Commerce are sponsoring the free event. About 10-12 volunteers are needed to serve as event marshals for the reenactment. Volunteers will be needed from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will be provided a box lunch. Herndon Council Receives Update on Town Branding Initiatives

The Town of Herndon is working to create a website focused on the promotion of restaurants in the town limits.

Members of Herndon’s Town Council received an update on the town’s branding and marketing initiatives at its Tuesday night work session. Town of Herndon Public Information Officer Anne Curtis said the town has been working to incorporate the new brand in its materials like pamphlets and emails, and will continue to do so as projects come up and the year goes on. Curtis said the new logo has also been incorporated into the 2013 Herndon Festival logo, and the town is working toward building a new website. For the time being, the current website has been updated with the new logo and matching color template. Herndon Police Report: Bank Window Reported Damaged

The window of a bank in the 1000 block of Elden Street was reported to have been damaged sometime between Dec. 2012 and Feb. 14.

The Herndon Police Department reported the following incidents from Feb. 11 through Feb. 17, 2013. The following information was supplied by the Herndon Police Department. Col. Mosby, Rangers to Raid Downtown Herndon in Historic Reenactment

The historic reenactment of Col. John Singleton Mosby's raid on Herndon will take place St. Patrick's Day.

History will come alive in downtown Herndon on St. Patrick’s Day as Col. John Singleton Mosby and his Rangers ride into town. Historical re-enactors will recreate Mosby’s surprise attack on the First Vermont Cavalry, stationed at the Herndon Depot downtown. Reenactments will be held at 11 a.m. as well as 2 p.m. on March 17, along with living history portrayals. The Herndon Historical Society and the Herndon Chamber of Commerce are sponsoring the free event with support from the Town of Herndon and many local businesses. Mosby’s raid will recreate the St. Patrick’s Day in 1863 when troopers from the First Vermont were relaxing at the depot and a nearby sawmill.
