Town Council Preview: Legislative Agenda, Noise Ordinance and More

The 2013 legislative agenda will be among items discussed at Tuesday's work session.

Today the Herndon Town Council will meet for a work session to discuss its 2013 legislative agenda, the downtown master plan pattern book, the town's noise ordinance and more.  The first of the public hearings to be discussed is the town's 2013 legislative program.  The town is requesting legislation that will clarify the relationship between towns and their counties when it comes to overlapping police powers and matters of legislative interest.   The Herndon Centre is requesting a resolution to revise the property's proffered condition amendment to allow additional uses at the shopping center. Town Council Preview: Town of Herndon Brand Strategy and More

At this week's Herndon Town Council work session the council will discuss the adoption of the new Herndon brand strategy.

At this week's Town Council work session the council will discuss a number of resolutions and ordinances, including a resolution to adopt the new Herndon brand.  The resolution is one of three public hearings that will be talked about at the work session. The council will discuss a public hearing for ordinance to approve an amendment to the lease between the town and Andrew LLC for space on the Third Street water tank. The original lease expires on Dec. 31, 2012. If the new lease is adopted it will extend the agreement through Dec. 31, 2015, with an option for a two year extension. Andrew LLC will pay $2,956.15 per month in rent, including a 3 percent annual increase.  Also up for discussion is a proffered condition amendment for the …

Hutchinson Elected Herndon's Vice Mayor

Council member receiving highest number of votes in May's election is traditionally selected for position

Herndon's Mayor Lisa Merkel and members of the Herndon Town Council approved a resolution Tuesday naming council member Connie Haines Hutchinson as Herndon's vice mayor for the 2012-2014 term.  The resolution passed 6-0, with Hutchinson abstaining from the vote. It is tradition that the council member who received the highest number of votes during the town's council election is named as vice mayor. Hutchinson received the highest number of votes in the May 1 election.  Hutchinson, who grew up in Herndon and raised her family in the town, was first elected to the town council in 1992. She served as vice mayor during the 2008-2010 term as well.  Hutchinson is a Certified Local Government Official with the Virginia Elected Officials …

Slow But Steady Turnout at Herndon Election

By 1:25 p.m. about 1,100 people had come out to vote.

Herndon's candidates are gathered outside the Herndon Community Center for a last chance to chat with voters before they go to fill out their ballots in the 2012 Herndon town election. By 1:30 p.m. more than 1,100 people came out to vote. There are about 11,800 registered voters in the town of Herndon. Candidates are hoping for a turnout of about 3,000 residents.  Election results should be available by late Tuesday evening.
