The dark comedy takes the stage from March 15 through April 6.
Elden Street Players will hold auditions for The Seafarer from Jan. 14-15. The play, by Conor McPherson, is produced by Janet Bordeaux (Rooms, Flowers for Algernon), and directed by Angie Anderson (The Weir, Shining City). No appointments are needed for auditions. Auditions will take place from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Jan. 14 and 15 at Hutchison Elementary School in Herndon. Registration begins at 7 p.m. Callbacks will be held from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Jan. 16 if necessary. Rehearsals will be held at the Herndon Town Shop from Jan. 21 through March 14. Dodgeball Theatre's Teen Ensemble, now in its fourth year, finished the 2012 performance season earlier this week at Forest Edge Elementary, where they performed their original work The Breaking Point for the sixth graders. This year's ensemble is composed of 13 teens, ages 13-18, from a variety of local middle schools and high schools, and includes several members that were former students at Forest Edge. The 2012 Teen Ensemble includes Jessica Ashworth, Annie Begley, Hailey Corkery, Kyle DeCamp, Charlotte DeWolfe, Karin Hoelzl, Kaleigh Mullins, Talley Murphy, Kevin Salassi, Savanna Salassi, Abigail Spira, Rachel Thompson, and Alina Zufall. Herndon Middle School's performing arts department is bringing L. Frank Baum's The Wizard of Oz to the stage this weekend for shows on Friday and Saturday. Though there are many version of the Oz story, teacher and Director Scott Pafumi chose the book and music adapted by The Royal Shakespeare Company. It is the closest to the 1939 MGM classic movie. Music and lyrics will be from the MGM score by Harold Arlen and EY Harburg, with additional music by Herbert Stothart. There are 38 student actors involved in the production, including many from Herndon Middle School and some from local elementary schools, along with a real "Toto." Dodgeball Theatre's "The Breaking Point" explores chaos and beauty.
Dodgeball Theatre is bringing its original production, The Breaking Point to the stage starting May 6. The show is the ensemble’s artistic interpretation of chaos and beauty, and was created after months of work, and shares their perspectives with their audiences. The students involved in the ensemble created the production from its inception, starting with writing prompts in the fall that eventually turned into monologues. The writing prompts can be simple or philosophical, for example they may be asked to write about the last time they were angry. The group comes up with a theme to decide which monologues they may include in the show. This year they discussed chaos and what good can come from chaos. The group also gets to help create …

There's something for everyone to celebrate Valentine's Day this weekend.
Valentine's Day is approaching and all of Herndon is celebrating. Local organizations, churches and businesses are celebrating by hosting Valentine's events for all. Find something to do with your sweetheart or the whole family. FRIDAY The Weekly Bluegrass Concert Series at Holy Cross Lutheran Church is hosting Dry Branch Fire Squad Friday night at 8 p.m. The group is known for its “down to the roots,” raw bluegrass sound. The show is $15 per person, with children 12 and under free. The Elden Street Players production of ROOMS: A Rock Romance has shows on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
