Town of Herndon Snow Removal Procedures

Live in the town of Herndon limits? Here's what you need to know about cars, sidewalks and the snow.

If you live in the town of Herndon, the town has its own procedures for snow removal that you may want to know.  The Town of Herndon's Department of Public Works is responsible for snow removal on roads within the town limits. Main arterial routes are given first priority for salting, sanding and plowing before other streets are addressed.  Here's what residents need to know when it snows in Herndon:  • PARKING - Avoid parking your vehicle on the street and in cul-de-sacs when a snowstorm is predicted to hit. Vehicles parked on streets makes it difficult or impossible for DPW trucks to remove snow. If your car is parked on a snow emergency route, it may be towed.  • SIDEWALKS - Residents should clear sidewalks near their business or home. …

VDOT to Meet Snow with 4,000 Plows

Department says new technology will allow officials to track plows, redirect them to emergencies this winter.

When its snows in Northern Virginia this winter, the Virginia Department of Transportation says it's ready to meet it head-on, with a $55 million budget and new resources, including technology that allows for more efficient plowing and an increased road-salt supply. At a briefing about the department's winter preparedness plans Wednesday in Fairfax, Branco Vlacich, VDOT’s Northern Virginia maintenance engineer, said 4,000 trucks would be available to plow snow and keep roads clear this winter — 1,000 more trucks than VDOT had during the harsh winter of 2010.
