The business has leased the Nachman Building in downtown Herndon.
A coffee shop and cycling store is coming to downtown Herndon. Mayor Lisa Merkel announced Friday afternoon that Green Lizard Cycling, a bike shop and espresso bar will be opening in the Nachman Building on Lynn Street this spring. Most recently the Chabad of Reston-Herndon used the building. The Nachman Building is also known for being the first in Herndon to take part in the Council for the Arts of Herndon's downtown mural project. Event will feature local vendors and holiday gifts while benefiting military families.
The second annual Helping Others Home for the Holidays event at JJ Deli will include many area vendors and business for some local holiday shopping while supporting a good cause on Friday, Nov. 30. Home for the Holidays will support Fisher House, a group that helps provide military families a home away from home when they’re visiting with their soldiers who are receiving treatment at military medical centers. The event, which takes place from 4-9 p.m., will feature items such as Stella and Dot jewelry, local art, Scentsy, home decor, local wines for tasting and for sale, and much more. Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, holiday parties—it's an expensive time of year. According to the National Retail Federation's national holiday consumer spending survey (conducted by BIGinsight), the average holiday shopper will spend $749.51 on gifts, décor, holiday cards, entertaining and other things this season. That's a minor increase from $740.57 — the amount shoppers spent last year. A new study by ShopAdvisor shows there were very good deals on toys in 2011 on days other than Black Friday.
Big retailers including K-Mart, Walmart and Target have announced Black Friday deals available as early as Thanksgiving night in 2012. But ShopAdvisor, a deferred shopping vendor that connects consumers' initial interest in a product with their eventual purchase, found Black Friday sales are not the best of the holiday shopping season. "Our experience tracking more than a hundred million products shows that although Black Friday may be a good day for shopping, there are 'blacker' days to be found during the holiday shopping season," said Scott Cooper, CEO of ShopAdvisor on PR Newswire. Sinclair is a longtime community volunteer.
Those who have been to Friday Night Live, or just about any other event in Herndon that requires volunteers, have run into Dave Sinclair. The Herndon resident and nonstop community volunteer and his significant other Pam Slabaugh will be leaving Herndon to move to Folly Beach, S.C. after the holidays. Friday Night Live is hosting a going-away party for the pair at The Breeze in downtown Herndon this Friday. The event begins at 8 p.m. and is open to anyone in the community.
