NOVEC Accepting Scholarship Applications

Applications are due by March 18.

Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative is currently accepting applications from Northern Virginia high school seniors for higher education scholarships. NOVEC’s scholarship program is awarding $1,500 scholarships to qualified graduating high school students within NOVEC’s service territory, including in Fairfax Fauquier, Loudoun, Prince William and Stafford Counties. An additional $1,500 scholarship will be awarded to a student who attends private school or is home schooled. From the scholarship winners, the scholarship selection committee will choose the overall outstanding student for the $1,500 J. Manley Garber Scholarship, for a total of $3,000 in scholarships. Kohl's Cares Scholarship Nominations Open Feb. 1

The program recognizes youth making a positive impact on their community.

Area Kohl's Department Stores, including the Herndon location on Elden Street, will start accepting nominations for outstanding young volunteers starting next week for the 2013 Kohl's Cares Scholarship Program.  Youth age 6 to 18 can be nominated for the awards and those nominating them must be 21 or older. Nominations will be accepted from Feb. 1 to March 15 at KohlsKids.com. Those wishing to nominate a local youth can sign up for email notification when the nomination form is available.  More than 2,300 youth across the country will be honored by Kohl's, and more than $425,000 in scholarships and prizes will be awarded to youth who have positively impacted their communities.  Two nominees from each of Kohl's 1,100 nationwide store …

The Closet Gives $15K in Local Scholarships

Herndon non-profit gives $15,000 in awards to students from South Lakes, Herndon and other area high schools.

The Closet of Greater Herndon awarded $15,000 in college scholarships to 15 deserving high school graduates in ceremonies at five local high schools. Reston Hospital Center Awards Scholarships

Thirteen students selected for achievements and interest in health fields.

Reston Hospital Center has awarded 13 Northern Virginia high school seniors with scholarships in recognition of their excellence in education and passion for pursuing a career in healthcare. Each year, the Medical Staff at Reston Hospital Center offers $12,000 in scholarships to ten local high schools, and the hospital’s Volunteer Services department offers scholarships to deserving high school seniors who currently volunteer at the hospital. Over the years, Reston Hospital Center has awarded more than $200,000 in academic scholarships to students in Northern Virginia.
