Prom will be held from 2-4 p.m. at St. Joseph's hall.
The Rotary Clubs of Reston and Herndon will host the 11th annual Senior Senior Prom in just a few weeks. The annual event brings out area seniors to have their own special prom. This year's Senior Senior Prom will take place from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, April 20 at the St. Joseph's Church hall, located at 750 Peachtree St., in Herndon. All area residents age 50 or better are invited to attend in their best prom or beach wear. The Loudoun Jazz Ensemble will be performing and the Gottaswing Dancers will entertain the crowd. To RSVP, contact Oliver Chiropractic and Acupuncture at 703-904-8528 by April 18. Transportation will be provided if needed, and can be arranged when RSVPing to the event. The Senior Senior Prom is free to attend.

Rotary Club of Herndon and Virginia Star collected and distributed computers to HMS students.
The Rotary Club of Herndon distributed free computers to Herndon Middle School students on Saturday as part of its Computers for Students Program. The program works to provide all Herndon students equal access to home computers for educational purposes, without regard to their income. Herndon Rotary works with nonprofit Virginia Star to collect donated computers from government agencies and local businesses. The Herndon Middle School Computer Club students were able to work on rebuilding and updating the computers with the appropriate hardware and software before they were distributed. Nachman was honored at a banquet on Oct. 19.
Herndon area residents, business professionals, representatives and organizations came out to honor Arthur Nachman as the Rotary Club of Herndon's 2012 Citizen of the Year on Oct. 19. Attendees included Mayor Lisa Merkel, Vice Mayor Connie Hutchinson, Herndon town council members Sheila Olem and Dave Kirby, Ann Rust and many others. Merkel, Rust, Stuart Nachman and Grace McDaniel shared stories of Arthur Nachman's accomplishments while poking a little good-natured fun at his expense. Sharon Bonneau, Herndon Middle School's director of bands, said she appreciates all of Arthur Nachman's support of the school's band programs, both at Herndon Middle School and Herndon High School. The Rotary Club of Herndon announced Arthur Nachman is this year's Citizen of the Year on Monday. Nachman is the 47th recipient of the honor. Citizen of the Year is the highest honor the Rotary Club awards. Nachman has been a community supporter in Herndon for many years, including with the Herndon High School, Herndon Middle School and area elementary school band programs. Kathleen Jacoby, director of bands at Herndon High School, nominated Nachman. The Herndon MOMS Club is holding a swap this week, and other events Sept. 17 to 26.
1) The Herndon MOMS Club is going green this week and holding a swap of gently used items. Swap items can include Halloween costumes, baby and child clothing, baby gear, maternity clothes and other items. Unwanted items left after the swap will be donated to a local nonprofit. Tuesday night is National Night Out.
1. Tonight is National Night Out, and the Herndon Police Department as well as many of the council members and staff are going to be out in the community talking about public safety and how Herndon residents can keep their communities safer places. Events are being held at neighborhoods throughout Herndon. Check out our previous story on National Night Out for all the details. 2. Nominate yourself or a neighbor for the Town of Herndon's Yard of the Month; join the MOMS Club of Herndon; local author Ron Culberson will hold a book signing Friday.
1) It's Yard of the Month season in Herndon and town residents can nominate their own or their neighbor's yards for the award. Yard of the Month recognizes residents whose yards contribute to the beautification of their neighborhood and the town. Winners receive gift certificates to Meadows Farms and are recognized at Herndon Town Council meetings. Nominations for the June Yard of the Month award are due by May 15.
