Arthur Nachman Named Herndon Rotary Citizen of the Year

Nachman will be honored at a banquet on Oct. 24.

The Rotary Club of Herndon announced Arthur Nachman is this year's Citizen of the Year on Monday.  Nachman is the 47th recipient of the honor. Citizen of the Year is the highest honor the Rotary Club awards.  Nachman has been a community supporter in Herndon for many years, including with the Herndon High School, Herndon Middle School and area elementary school band programs.  Kathleen Jacoby, director of bands at Herndon High School, nominated Nachman. In her letter she said, “Mr. Nachman was the first person to ever unite all six elementary band directors in Herndon to form a united vision.”   Nachman has helped provide instruments for students who are otherwise unable afford them, has helped bring professional musicians to visit schools…

National Speakers Association Inducts Ron Culberson as 2012-2013 President

Local author and speaker to serve as president of association.

Herndon's Ron Culberson has been inducted as the 2012-2013 president of the National Speakers Association.  The association is the country's leading organization for professional speakers. Culberson is an author, columnist, speaker and humorist. He has written three books, including Do it Well. Make it Fun., Is Your Glass Laugh Full, and My Kneecap Seems Too Loose. He has written humor columns for the Observer Newspapers and Herndon Patch.  Culberson started his career in the hospice and palliative care industry. He served as a manager of counseling services, then director of quality services before he transitioned to a speaking career. He has addressed more than 120,000 people from more than 1,000 organizations.  Culberson received his …

St. Joseph's School Launches Interact Club

St. Joseph's Catholic School, with the help of the Rotary Club of Dulles International Airport, recently launched its own Interact Club. Interact is Rotary's service club for those age 12-18. Support and guidance for Interact Clubs is provided by their sponsored Rotary Club. Interact Clubs work on two community service projects each year, with one focused on international understanding and goodwill. The club develops leadership skills and personal integrity, demonstrates helpfulness and respect for others, and more. There are more than 10,700 clubs in 109 countries, with more than 200,000 peopl einvolved.

The Fabulous Hubcaps played to a full house as they danced the night away.

The Rotary Club of Herndon hosted its annual Herndon Rotary Valentine Hop on Saturday, Feb. 11 at the Herndon Community Center. The event included live music by The Fabulous Hubcaps and BYOB refreshments. Proceeds from the event will go to local charities and educational opportunities for local youth.
