Fundraiser benefited Reston Interfaith.
Thursday night's Fundraiser for Reston Interfaith at N'Used Boutique in Herndon was a great success. The fundraiser was hosted by Rosemary Edwards, owner of N'Used and Ellen Moyer, RE/MAX Allegiance. There was live music, a massage therapist giving free massages, door prizes, refreshments and a lot of fun. Thanks from Ellen Moyer and Rosemary Edwards to all that came out to support this local organization that does so much for our community. Rosemary and Ellen are proud they could give back to the community they live, work and play in. The reception may be over, but you can still support Reston Interfaith. Funds raised through Gals Who Give will be donated to Reston Interfaith to support its programs.
Rosemary Edwards of N'Used and Ellen Moyer, a RE/MAX Allegiance Realtor, are hosting the first inaugural Gals Who Give fundraiser for Reston Interfaith on April 18. The event will include anevening of live entertainment, light refreshments, shopping and socializing. Gals Who Give will be held from 4:30-7 p.m. April 18 at N'Used Clothing Boutique, located at 286 Sunset Park Dr., in Herndon. Additionally, 15 percent of sales between April 18-20 will be donated to Reston Interfaith. Moyer will be donating $200 from each home closing through July 2013 to Reston Interfaith. Herndon company Windward IT Solutions celebrated its 15th anniversary by volunteering with Reston Interfaith.
Employees from Herndon's Windward IT Solutions celebrated the company's 15th anniversay by volunteering at the Embry Rucker Community Shelter recently. The company, which provides service-centric IT solutions, volunteered at the Embry Rucker soup kitchen, lending a hand during the Saturday dinner service last weekend. The shelter is part of Reston Interfaith's programs. According to a Windward press release, the company understands the hardships faced by many people in recent years and recognizes the importance of helping those people. Congressman Gerry Connolly will participate at this weekend's free tax assistance service in Herndon.
Congressman Gerry Connolly will be speaking during a free tax assistance service to be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Herndon Neighborhood Resource Center. The event, held at 1086 Elden St., will provide free tax preparation and filing assistance for low and moderate income taxpayers. The HNRC is an IRS-certified Volunteer Income Tax Assistance site. There are more than 6,000 similar sites across the nation that are assisting taxpayers this year. Last year volunteers helped prepare more than 1.6 million returns. In Fairfax County, 2012 volunteers helped file about 4,800 tax returns, helping provide about $8.5 million in refunds to local taxpayers. Last week's count of Fairfax County homeless searched the woods to find those who live in encampments. The information will be used to track them — and hopefully get them into homes.
Fairfax County officials and volunteers counted 462 homeless living outdoors during the recently completed Registry Week. More than 200 volunteers scoured the woods and other hidden areas of the county where homeless people live last week in order to count, photograph, and get names and histories. Reston Interfaith CEO Kerrie Wilson said she saw great honesty from those living outdoors. "I was struck by the differences in talking with someone in their 'home' – in their space versus when we are in shelter and other settings where we must set the rules," she said at a Registry Week media event on Monday. Volunteers and staff from Reston Interfaith began taking part in the area's 100,000 Homes Registry Week on Sunday. The project, a joint effort in the area by the Fairfax-Falls Church Community Partnership to Prevent and End Homelessness, FACETS, New Hope Housing, Pathway Homes and Volunteers of America Chesapeake, will create a registry that will give advocates a better look at who are the chronically homeless in the area. Reston Interfaith volunteers will gather names, photographs and qualitative information of the most vulnerable and chronically homeless people. In Reston, they will survey the Hypothermia Site at Camron Glen, the Embry Rucker Community Shelter, and local "hot spots" — areas where homeless are known to live outdoors. "…

30th annual performance, auctions, will Reston Interfaith programs.
The 30th Annual Capitol Steps Benefit at the Hyatt Regency Reston raised a record $147,395 for Reston Interfaith on Sunday. About 600 guests attended the political satire performance. St. Anne's Episcopal Church, Boofie and Joe O'Gorman, Signature & Stewart Settlements, L.C. and an anonymous donor provided matching incentives for guests who collectively raised $50,000. Del. International program will give new shoes to 150 children served by Reston Interfaith.
Young clients of Reston Interfaith are getting new shoes this winter thanks to the organization's partnership with Payless Shoes' Payless Gives Shoes for Kids program. Payless Gives Shoes 4 Kids, which began in 2008, is an initiative in all 50 states, Canada, Puerto Rico and 11 Latin American countries in which the shoe company will give $1.5 million of free shoes to children of families in need. The first group of local kids visited the Payless at Reston's North Point shopping center last week. Another group will go Jan. 26. In all, 150 children under 18 will be served by the program, a Reston Interfaith spokesman said, adding that many children have never had shoes that were not hand-me-downs. The annual Stuff the Bus food drive will be at the Herndon Shoppers Monday.
Though many look for ways to give during the holiday season, there are still ways to do so once the holidays are over. Fairfax County's Stuff the Bus: Feeding Fairfax Families food drive will be collecting food for area nonprofits and food pantries in the next few weeks, including in Herndon. According to the county, donations to area food pantries drop to one of the lowest points of the year after the holidays are over. Last year more than 25,000 pounds of food were collected. The program is in its third year and will have 10 participating locations this year. Each week a Fastran bus will be at a different location in the county picking up food donations. Reston Interfaith, Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce select honorees who have served the community.
The Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce and Reston Interfaith announced the winners of the 2013 annual Best of Reston awards for those who have served Reston with outstanding community service. The winners, announced at a reception at The Metropolitan at Reston Town Center Thursday, will be honored at a gala to benefit Reston Interfaith on April 11. This is the 22nd year Best of Reston has been awarded. The 2013 class includes: Individual Community Members Doug Bushee - Bushee is the founder of the CORE Foundation, which assists individual and groups to raise money for a nonprofit. The foundation has helped the Reston Sprint Triathlon raise more than $130,000 for Reston Interfaith. He is a former Reston Association board member. Ed …
