The Town of Herndon honored Flores for becoming a Certified Municipal Clerk.
The Herndon Town Council honored employee Michelle Flores for becoming a Certified Municipal Clerk. Flores has worked in the Town of Herndon's clerk's office since 2002. Becoming a Certified Municipal Clerk enhances job performance for town and city clerks in both small and large municipalities, and the program requires extensive education programs. ArtSpace Herndon's New Years Eve Celebrations included a bonfire and local performers.
ArtSpace Herndon's third annual New Years Eve Celebrations brought out crowds of all ages to celebrate the evening on Monday night. The evening began with family friendly performances from Sun Dance Performance Company, original storytelling by Melanie Stanley, local folk singer Bill Davis and more. Attendees then headed outdoors for a bonfire where special pine cones sent up colored flames to the sky. The Herndon-Reston Drum Circle led drumming while Sun Dance Performance Company led folk dances. After the bonfire everyone headed back into ArtSpace for more local performances in a tonight show format, complete with interviews with performers, commercials and a Top 10 list. HMC served as site for annual Holiday Model Train Show.
The annual Herndon Holiday Model Train Show filled the lobby of the Herndon Municipal Center with miniature landscapes circled by model trains on Saturday and Sunday. Children and children-at-heart enjoyed the display during the weekend, and were able to watch the trains, ask questions of their builders and learn about trains. Jimmy's Old Town Tavern celebrated its second King of the Wings win with a special chicken dance.
Jimmy's Old Town Tavern won Northern Virginia Magazine's King of the Wings contest for the second year in a row. The first year of the contest owner Jimmy Cirrito promised he would do the chicken dance in his boxers on Elden Street — a promise he made good on when he won in March 2011.
