Nominations being accepted for Mayor's Volunteer Awards; MOMS Club of Herndon to discuss children's nutrition and diet.
1. Nominations are being accepted for the 29th annual Town of Herndon Mayor's Volunteer Appreciation Awards. Nominees are being accepted in the following categories: Outstanding Volunteers, Distinguished Service Award and Corporate Service Awards. Nominations will be accepted through March 18. Leadership Fairfax is holding an information session on the upcoming Lifetime Leadership Program at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Leadership Fairfax offices. MOMS Club of Herndon to hold open house Thursday.
1. The MOMS Club of Herndon is holding an open house this week that will feature a variety of area nonprofits and local organizations where families can volunteer together. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Thursday at ArtSpace Herndon, 750 Center St. 2. The Fairfax Choral Society will hold auditions for its west campus youth choruses, which includes singers ages 5-13, on Jan. 15 and 22 by appointment. This week is the last of the Herndon Golf Course Summer Camps and the last week of our Readers' Choice poll!
Here's a few things to know about happening in Herndon this week: 1. The last of the Herndon Golf Course Summer Camps will be this week from Tuesday to Thursday. Children and teens can learn the basics of golf, the rules of the game, etiquette and more. 2. The Herndon Rotary Club's weekly meeting will be Wednesday at 7:30 a.m. at Amphora Diner Deluxe. This week's speaker is Dr. Robert Verhalen, who will be discussing the aging crisis faced by the United States. 3. The Moms Club of Herndon's monthly meeting is scheduled for Thursday at 10 a.m. The Moms Club will be discussing the Olympics, culture and diversity this month and children can take part in related craft projects. Nominate yourself or a neighbor for the Town of Herndon's Yard of the Month; join the MOMS Club of Herndon; local author Ron Culberson will hold a book signing Friday.
1) It's Yard of the Month season in Herndon and town residents can nominate their own or their neighbor's yards for the award. Yard of the Month recognizes residents whose yards contribute to the beautification of their neighborhood and the town. Winners receive gift certificates to Meadows Farms and are recognized at Herndon Town Council meetings. Nominations for the June Yard of the Month award are due by May 15.
