2012 Herndon Homecoming Parade Winners

The HHS Senior Class won the Best in Parade Category.

The judges tallied up the scores after the Herndon Homecoming Parade and many local organizations were deserving of awards. Here's who won! Sunny weather made for a perfect parade day.

Area residents turned out in droves to celebrate homecoming in Herndon as the parade took over downtown Herndon Saturday morning. During the parade the town celebrated its new logo and branding with an announcement, banners, T-shirts, stickers and balloons.

Herndon Homecoming Parade Road Closures

Elden Street to close for parade route.

This weekend is Herndon High School's annual Homecoming and the festivities include a parade, football game, powder puff game, bonfire and much more.  Some roads in town will be closing to through traffic on Saturday to clear the way for the parade to make its way through town. Here's what you need to know:  • Elden Street will be closed from Lynn Street to Sterling Road.  • Sterling Road will be closed from Elden Street to Herndon Parkway. Those leaving from side streets will be able to exit.  • Lynn Street in the downtown area will be closed, and it may be difficult to get anywhere in the core of downtown on Station and Spring streets as well.  These streets will close at about 7 a.m. to prepare for the parade and they will reopen after …

Del. Rust Hosts Homecoming Food Drive

Non-perishable food needed for LINK.

Del. Tom Rust (R-86) is hosting his fourth annual food drive to benefit LINK Against Hunger as part of the Herndon Homecoming festivities.  During the Herndon High School homecoming parade and football game food donations will be accepted. Especially needed is spaghetti sauce, dried beans, canned black beans, canned chicken, canned fruit, canned chili and soups.  There has been very high demand for food and LINK's supplies are low. Food donations are needed to stock the shelves of the pantry.  Rust will have children's wagons along the parade route as well as at the entrance to the homecoming game on Saturday to collect non-perishable food. Herndon Homecoming Parade Needs Volunteers, Convertibles

Homecoming parade still needs convertibles and drivers for Homecoming court.

The Herndon Homecoming parade is this weekend and volunteers are still needed.  Herndon High School is looking for area residents with convertibles to volunteer to drive the school's Homecoming Court members and Town Council members through the parade route on Sautrday.  The school is also looking for a number of volunteers to help out in organizing the parade on the morning of Homecoming any time between 7 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.  Volunteers will help set up for the parade and facilitate the movement of the parade. Volunteers are vital to the parade. Ten are needed for the first shift from 6:30 - 9 a.m. and 10 are needed from the second shift from 8:30 - 11 a.m. Two volunteers are also needed to help with cleanup from 10:45 to 11:30 a.m.  …

Herndon Homecoming Schedule of Events

It's Homecoming week at Herndon High School.

It's that time of year, when people prepare to walk down Elden Street or line up to watch as Homecoming takes over the town.  This year's Herndon Homecoming Parade will take place at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday down Elden Street leading to downtown Herndon.  The football game will be against Washington and Lee High School at 1 p.m. Saturday at Herndon High School. HHS students will celebrate with a homecoming dance Saturday evening.  This year's homecoming theme is Childhood Nostalgia. For Herndon students celebrating Spirit Week, Tuesday will be Cartoon Day, Wednesday is Childhood Idol Day, Thursday is Toy Day and Friday is Class Color Day.  The Powder Puff game will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday on the Herndon High School football field.
