Event will feature local vendors and holiday gifts while benefiting military families.
The second annual Helping Others Home for the Holidays event at JJ Deli will include many area vendors and business for some local holiday shopping while supporting a good cause on Friday, Nov. 30. Home for the Holidays will support Fisher House, a group that helps provide military families a home away from home when they’re visiting with their soldiers who are receiving treatment at military medical centers. The event, which takes place from 4-9 p.m., will feature items such as Stella and Dot jewelry, local art, Scentsy, home decor, local wines for tasting and for sale, and much more. Northern Virginia's economy is relatively strong, but the looming threat of sequestration has some shoppers nervous.
Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, holiday parties—it's an expensive time of year. According to the National Retail Federation's national holiday consumer spending survey (conducted by BIGinsight), the average holiday shopper will spend $749.51 on gifts, décor, holiday cards, entertaining and other things this season. That's a minor increase from $740.57 — the amount shoppers spent last year. A new study by ShopAdvisor shows there were very good deals on toys in 2011 on days other than Black Friday.
Big retailers including K-Mart, Walmart and Target have announced Black Friday deals available as early as Thanksgiving night in 2012. But ShopAdvisor, a deferred shopping vendor that connects consumers' initial interest in a product with their eventual purchase, found Black Friday sales are not the best of the holiday shopping season. Police officers will deploy next week in an effort to prevent shoplifting and other crimes; safety tips for shopping during Black Friday.
It’s that time of year again. Consumers are busting down the doors of retail stores everywhere. Unfortunately, the holiday season is the perfect time for criminals to be on the lookout for freebies. People are indulging in holiday shopping, and it’s not uncommon for the crime rate to increase throughout the season. A holiday shopping, social and networking event will help provide support to military personnel recovering at military medical centers
One local holiday event will provide a chance for area residents to get some Christmas shopping done, participate in mini workshops and benefit military families. Helping Others – Home for the Holidays will include products such as jewelry, baked goods, wine and wine tasting, local art, hand-made adult fitness hula hoops and more. Jackie Johnson, the Or/gan/iz/er, and Robyn McClure, of Decorating Den, organized Helping Others, which will take place on Dec. 2 from 4-9 p.m. at the clubhouse at the Herndon Centennial Golf Course, where J.J.
