Nominate Your Neighbors for 'Dress Up Herndon for the Holidays'

Deck your halls with themes like classical, whimsical, creative and more.

Town of Herndon residents are busy decking the halls, hanging wreaths, stringing lights and decorating their homes for the holidays.  They're also invited to nominate their own or their neighbors' homes for the annual Dress Up Herndon for the Holidays neighborhood decoration contest. The contest is sponsored by the town's Cultivating Community Initiative.  The contest is open to all residents in the Town of Herndon limits. Nominations should be submtted to information@herndon-va.gov or to 703-435-6800 extention 2084 by Friday, Dec. 14.  The judging panel for the contest includes volunteer members of the Cultivating Community Committee. They will travel throughout the town on the evening of Monday, Dec. 17 to determine contest winners. …

National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony 2012

Watch the ceremony online or visit the tree throughout the holiday season.

The National Christmas Tree lighting ceremony ticket lottery has closed, but people around the country and the world can still watch it online Thursday, Dec. 6 starting at 4:30 p.m. According to the National Park Service website: "This year, experience the magic of the National Christmas Tree Lighting any time you want without ever leaving your home. Watch the pre-show and tree lighting ceremony starting at 4:30 pm ET on Thursday, Dec.  6. And following the live online stream, the show will be available anytime on-demand right here."
