Town of Herndon Receives Distinguished Budget Award

Herndon received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award by the Government Finance Officers Association for the 22nd year.

Town of Herndon Director of Finance Mary Tuohy and Director of Human Resources Linda Simmons were recognized at Tuesday's Herndon Town Council meeting for their work with the Town of Herndon budget. Herndon has been awarded the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award by the Government Finance Officers Association for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2012. This is the 22nd year Herndon has received the award, which is the only national award in governmental budgeting.  Find Herndon Patch via:

Five Things to Know Today in Herndon

Provide input on the Town of Herndon's 2014 budget, celebrate Valentine's Day with a singing Valentine.

1. The Herndon Town Council is seeking public input on the 2014 budget. The council is inviting the public to speak at this week's public hearing to let them know which programs and services are most important to residents. The public hearing starts at 7 p.m. at the Ingram Council Chambers, 765 Lynn St., in downtown Herndon.  2. This week in Herndon and Northern Virginia area residents can buy their sweetheart a singing Valentine through the Fairfax Jubilaires. From now through Wednesday, singing Valentines are $50 and available from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. in Northern Virginia and Washington, DC. Last Chance: Council to Vote on Town of Herndon Budget

The Herndon Town Council will continue its work on the town's 2013 budget at Tuesday's public hearing. Residents are welcome to comment on and provide feedback on the budget.

The Herndon Town Council will finish voting on the 2013 budget on Tuesday, May 8. At the April 24 public hearing the council voted to maintain the town’s current real estate tax rate, meals tax rate and other town taxies and levies at their current levels for the 2013 budget year. The town’s real estate tax rate is $0.265 per $100 of assessed value. The town’s meals tax rate will remain at 2.5 percent for the 2013 budget, and the cigarette tax will remain at 75 cents per pack. The town’s business, professional and occupational license taxes remain at the current rates, and the motor vehicle licensing fee remains at $25 for vehicles weighing less than 4,000 pounds and private passenger vehicles, and $32 for vehicles weighing more than 4,000…

My understanding of the Downtown Parking Garage is that meals taxes will supply $1.2 million in direct payments at $200K per year, and it will get $42,000 from an existing reserve, probably now - but about $1.74 million is shown in that account after five more years, so there is an extra $500K or so coming from somewhere. Then there would be $1.74 million, but the garage should cost $6.3 million…   more ›

UPDATE - Last Chance: Provide Input on Herndon's 2013 Budget

The Herndon Town Council will vote on the proposed 2013 budget at tonight's meeting.

Update - April 24, 11 p.m.: The Herndon Town Council deferred voting on the 2013 budget on Tuesday, April 24. The council will take action on the budget at its next public hearing on May 8. The public still has time to comment and provide input until then. See the end of this article for ways to provide comments on the budget to the Town of Hendon. Herndon’s Proposed 2013 Budget Released

The Herndon Town Council will hold public hearings on the proposed budget on April 10 and April 24.

Herndon Town Manager Art Anselene has proposed a budget for fiscal year 2013 of $46,116,950. The budget is a 1.9 percent increase over the 2012 budget. “In this period of continued economic recovery and stabilization, the town’s proposed budget provides the fiscal resources to further the Town Council’s vision for redevelopment of the downtown, transit-oriented development in the future Metrorail area and other major capital projects, as well as continuation of the services and programs our citizens expect and enjoy,” said Anselene in a press release.                   Some of the 2013 budget highlights include: • Maintains the town real estate tax, meals tax and all other taxes and levies at their current levels. • Continues allocation of…

Town Calls for Public Input on 2012-13 Budget

Town of Herndon officials are asking residents and business owners to provide input on the upcoming 2012-13 budget process.

The Herndon Town Council solicited comments on the fiscal year 2012-2013 annual budget. Town Manager Art Anselene said the town is seeking comments from the public on the town’s budget process. There will be two more public hearings on the town’s proposed budget scheduled for April that will take input collected into consideration. Anselene and town staff have been working to visit homeowners associations in the town to inform them of the budget process.
