Council for the Arts of Herndon Honors Volunteers at Annual Meeting

Volunteers and contributors were recognized at the annual Council for the Arts of Herndon meeting Wednesday.

Members of the Council for the Arts of Herndon gathered at Ice House Cafe in downtown Herndon on Wednesday to for the annual meeting and to honor volunteers and contributors to the organization.  Council for the Arts Board President Grace Wolf discussed some of the programming the group does in the Town of Herndon, including many hands-on arts events for children, Herndon Festival, the annual Jimmy's Golf Tournament and providing scholarships and grants to area youth and arts organizations.  In 2012 the organization provided more than $20,000 in scholarships and $8,000 in grants to other arts organizations, Wolf said.  Wolf said there are some changes this year. Annual Taste of the Town Raises Funds for Council for the Arts

The annual Taste of the Town raised more than $10,000, which will help fund scholarships for Herndon-area students with an interest in art.

The annual Taste of the Town, held at Worldgate Center on April 19, drew in a crowd of hungry people who tasted foods from more than 20 restaurants in the Herndon area.  The event raised more than $10,000 for the Council for the Arts of Herndon, which provides scholarships to Herndon-area students and creates arts programs in Herndon, such as the hands-on art area at Herndon Festival. Participating restaurants and eateries included O'Sullivan's, Jimmy's Old Town Tavern, TGI Friday's, Supper Club of India, TurCuisine, Cold Stone Creamery and more.

This is one of my favorite happenings in Herndon. It's a place to meet town folk you usually don't see. Furthermore, the fact that it helps gifted young people makes is worthwhile. The Town Council meeting when the schoolarships are given out, lifts my heart. Makes me proud of the wonderful youngsters and of the fact that we have so many who care about the arts.   more ›
