The management of Fox Mill Shopping Center has been hard at work for a over a month on a new look. Crews are revamping the signage and roof line of the center. They are just beginning the big piece: the Giant Foods store, which has thousands of cedar shingles as part of the exterior.

The Herndon Town Council will honor Jerry S. Keys of the Herndon Police Department with a Certificate of Appreciation for his 33 years of service to the town at tonight's public hearing. Additional presentations at tonight's meeting, which begins at 7 p.m. at the Ingram Council Chambers, include recognizing the graduates of the 18th session of the Herndon Citizens Police Academy and a proclamation for Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Week, which takes place March 11-17. The first public hearing item is a resolution to collect input on the 2014 budget from Herndon residents and business owners. Congressman Gerry Connolly will participate at this weekend's free tax assistance service in Herndon.
Congressman Gerry Connolly will be speaking during a free tax assistance service to be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Herndon Neighborhood Resource Center. The event, held at 1086 Elden St., will provide free tax preparation and filing assistance for low and moderate income taxpayers. The HNRC is an IRS-certified Volunteer Income Tax Assistance site. There are more than 6,000 similar sites across the nation that are assisting taxpayers this year. Last year volunteers helped prepare more than 1.6 million returns. In Fairfax County, 2012 volunteers helped file about 4,800 tax returns, helping provide about $8.5 million in refunds to local taxpayers. It may have taken until March, but Herndon finally saw the beginning of what is likely to be its first significant snowfall Wednesday morning. The Capital Weather Gang was forecasting 6 to 12 inches outside the Beltway, and 3 to 8 inches inside of it. Herndon is expected to get the 6 to 12 inches predicted. The Herndon Town Council will discuss a zoning ordinance text amendment to update the town’s ordinance on the demolition of historic district landmarks, buildings or structures tonight. The amendment updates the town’s ordinance to bring it into compliance with Virginia State Code. During tonight's Herndon Town Council work session the council will also discuss a contract to sell 532 square feet of Town real estate on the north side of the Herndon Commerce Center building to be used as a planting strip. The town would retain public easements for the improvement of the downtown streetscape and other public municipal uses. Voce Chamber Singers is bringing brand new performance to the Herndon and Reston area, a commissioned piece based on the setting of the e.e. cummings poem, i love you much (most beautiful darling). The work, I Love You Much, was created by award-winning composer Matthew Harris. The Voce Chamber Singers are led by Artistic Director Kenneth Nafziger. Harris will attend both performances, and a reception and silent auction will follow each one.
