Rail on Track to Loudoun?

With project labor agreement and high cost to taxpayers and counties, Silver Line to Dulles International Airport has a chance of not happening.

Could Rail to Dulles really end up being Rail to Reston? That possibility was discussed at "Silver Line: On Track to Loudoun," a panel discussion hosted by the Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce at the Sheraton Reston on Wednesday. With seven new members on the nine-member Loudoun County Board of Supervisors, many of the new board members have said they are undecided about whether to support the $2.7-billion Silver Line Phase 2, which will extend the rail from Reston's Wiehle Avenue to Dulles International Airport and into Loudoun County. The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) and Fairfax County last week granted Loudoun County Supervisors an additional 30 days to  decide whether it will contribute to Phase 2, which is …

The P!A has nothing to do with wages. That's all set in stone with a job like this. On phase 1 you had both union and nonunion making the same wage and benefit scale. You obviously don't know much about this kind of work. Furthermore, to characterize 97.4% of Virginia's construction workers as "minimum wage no benefits laborers from rural VA or China" is rude and so incredibly off base. Virginia …   more ›

Northern Virginia Chamber Partnership Frustrated with General Assembly

NVCP asks Gov. McDonnell and General Assembly to adopt a budget, put aside partisan differences and work to ensure the Commonwealth remains a business-friendly state.

The Northern Virgnia Chamber Partnership is expressing frustration at the 2012 Virginia General Assembly and Governor Bob McDonnell. The Partnership is asking them to work together to support policies that promote a pro-business environment within the Commonwealth of Virginia.  The NVCP, made up of the Dulles Regional, Greater Reston and Loudoun County chambers of commerce, is requesting that members of General Assembly begin by adopting a budget. The group says rather than focusing on partisan issues, the General Assembly, as well as Governor Bob McDonnell needs to be focused on keeping Virginia, which NVCP says has been a historically business-friendly state, a good place to start a business and raise a family.  NVCP sent a letter to …

Sure it's not like the Northern Virginia Chamber Partnership wouldn't pave the whole county over to get 1 more business here in Virginia. Virginia is already a pro-business state and who is the NVCP to say that our elected officials are not acting in our best interests? Undue pressure by a special interest group is purely a puff piece.   more ›

Virginia A Fiscally Safe Place To Be, McDonnell Says At Reston Appearance

McDonnell: While Washington argues on debt, commonwealth has a surplus and a lot to be happy about.

While politicians in Washington continue to hammer out an agreement on the federal debt ceiling, Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell (R) said the economic climate in the commonwealth is relatively healthy, stable and well-run. McDonnell, speaking to the Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce at its annual Awards for Chamber Excellence (ACE) at the Westin Washington Dulles on Tuesday, told chamber members if they ran their own businesses the way the federal government does, they probably would be out of business.  "We have a state where we are running things on a fiscally safe basis," said McDonnell. "With the federal debt ceiling, what is going to happen in the next seven or eight days will hopefully offer a resolution in the near future. There is no …
