Herndon High Student Earns Journalism Honor

Dev will represent Virginia at 2013 Washington Journalism and Media Conference at George Mason University.

Reston's Navya Dev, a student at Herndon High School, has been nominated to represent Virginia as a National Youth Correspondent to the 2013 Washington Journalism and Media Conference at George Mason University. Dev will join a select group of 250 students from across the country to participate in an intensive week-long study of journalism and media, according to a release about the program. National Youth Correspondents participate in hands-on learning and explore the creative, practical, and ethical tensions in journalism and media, the release said. The week-long program is held from July 7 to 12 at George Mason University. Find Herndon Patch via:

AARP Dulles Awards Nursing Scholarships at GMU

Four $2,000 scholarships were awarded.

The Dulles Chapter of AARP presented four $2,000 scholarships to two undergraduate students, one masters student and one doctoral nursing student at George Mason University on Nov. 14.  All the scholarship recipients are interested and passionate about serving older adults and are part of GMU's geriatrics study program. AARP Dulles works to raise money for students in the program through its annual Classic Car Show.  This year's Classic Car Show major sponsors were in attendance for the scholarship awards, including Wiygul Automotive and Griffin-Owens Insurance.  [Want to stay on top of news in Herndon? Sign up for our weekly, daily or breaking news emails.]
