Fairfax County police say teens allegedly created explosive devices, set them off at a neighborhood playground.
Fifteen teenagers from Herndon and Chantilly have been charged with allegedly manufacturing and using fire bombs in connection with a December incident near a Fairfax County elementary school. According to a Tuesday release from the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department, the explosives were reported at 9:15 p.m. Dec. 14 at a neighborhood playground in the 3200 block of Kinross Circle, near Oak Hill Elementary. Investigators from the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department, as well as the Fairfax County Police Department and its bomb squad, responded to the incident in the Oak Hill/Franklin Farm neighborhood. Fairfax County Police are looking for a man who robbed a Herndon area bank Thursday.
Police are investigating a robbery that occurred at the Capital One Bank at 13344-A Franklin Farm Rd., in the Herndon area on Thursday. At about 1:37 p.m. Thursday a man entered the bank and implied that he had a weapon before demanding money from a teller. The teller complied and the man fled. No injuries were reported. The suspect was described as white, in his 40s, about 5-feet 4-inches tall to 5-feet 7-inches tall, with a medium build. He wore a black zip-up style jacket, black pants and a black hunter's style hat. Event is Oct. 20 from noon to 2 p.m.
Franklin Farm Village Center in Herndon will welcome trick-or-treaters this season on Oct. 20. The shopping center is hosting a free trick-or-treat event that will be held rain or shine from noon to 2 p.m. Children decked out in their Halloween best will be able to trick-or-treat throughout the center, get goodies from participating businesses and watch Halloween entertainers. The Franklin Farm Village Center is located at the intersection of Franklin Farm Road and Fairfax County Parkway. Participating stores include Giant and Sears. Papa Murphy's take-and-bake pizza shop opened at Franklin Farm Village Center in the Herndon area about a month ago and will be celebrating from April 26-29 with a grand opening event.
