Snow Delays and Cancelations in Fairfax County

Public school students are on spring break, but other programs and offices are affected by this rare, late-March snowstorm.

Fairfax County Public Schools students are on spring break—it just doesn't look very springlike this morning. Fairfax County government offices are opening on time this morning.  FCPS programs and activities that do operate during spring break are operating on a two-hour delay. School Age Child Care (SACC) centers opened at 7:15 a.m. Adult and community education classes are starting on time Monday. Many main roads are mostly just wet now, but side roads are slushy or snowy; please use caution while driving. The snow is expected to mix with rain later on Monday before switching back to snow showers in the afternoon and evening. Precipitation should end late Monday night. Some Fairfax County offices and services will be closed on Thursday and Friday.

The Thankgiving holiday will stretch over several days for many Fairfax County offices and agencies. Here is a look at what is open and what is closed.  County Government – Closed Nov. 22-23. Courts – Close at noon on Wednesday, Nov. 21; closed Nov. 22-23. Public Schools and School Offices – Two-hour early closing for students only on Wednesday, Nov. 21; closed Nov. 22-23. County Offices Closed Tuesday due to Hurricane Sandy

Fairfax County Government Offices, community centers and SACCs will be closed Tuesday, Oct. 30.

Fairfax County Government Offices will be closed Tuesday, Oct. 30 and employees are granted emergency administrative leave. Emergency service personnel will report as scheduled, according to Fairfax County Government. Fairfax County Public Schools and Offices will also be closed Tuesday due to Hurricane Sandy. Other business closings and county cancellations include: The Fairfax County Emergency Information Hotline has been activated and is available for residents to call for information about the storm. The number is 571-350-1300, TTY 711.  For an emergency, call 9-1-1.

Update: Fairfax County Reports Problems With Online Tax Payment Service

Personal property tax deadline extended by a day; must be postmarked Oct. 6.

Update: Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Chair Sharon Bulova said in a statement Friday that residents would get an extension on personal property taxes due today.  Residents will get "a one-day waiver of the late fee for online property tax payments received before midnight tomorrow, October 6, 2012, and mailed payments postmarked by the same date," Bulova said. Personal Property Taxes Due Oct. 5

The value of some vehicles has risen due to increased demand for used cars.

The high demand for used cars may make your personal property tax bill just a little bit higher this year.  Personal property taxes for Fairfax County residents are due Friday, Oct. 5. Those include taxes for cars, trucks, motorcycles, boats and business personal property. The valuation of automobiles is normally based on the National Automobile Dealers’ Association’s Official Used Car Guide value as of Jan. 1. Most vehicles depreciate in value over time, and this is still the case. New Regulations Could be Hard on Fairfax Child Care Providers

New state regulations would require a zoning check for new and renewed licenses.

Proposed regulations and changes to licensing and zoning processes could place stress on Fairfax County in-home day care providers. Approximately 200 childcare providers and parents packed into the board auditorium at Fairfax County Government Center Monday night for a two-hour town hall meeting hosted by Springfield District Supervisor Pat Herrity and Sully District Supervisor Michael Frey. Attendees were able to provide input and learn more about the changes, which Chairman Sharon Bulova detailed in a recent letter to the county’s nearly 500 state-licensed childcare providers.
