Fairfax Police Searching for Missing 5-Year-Old Boy

Cameron Serafin, 5, was supposed to be returned to his father on Sunday; authorities have issued a warrant for his mother.

Five-year-old Cameron Serafin was supposed to return Sunday to his father in Great Falls. But he never came home, say Fairfax County police, who asked for the public's help Thursday in finding the missing child. According to police, Cameron is believed to be with his mother, Rebecca Serafin, 32. Serafin was supposed to return the child to his father on Sunday. A warrant has been issued for Serafin’s arrest on charges of custodial interference, a misdemeanor, police said. Detectives say they have reason to be concerned about the boy's welfare. There was no address available for Cameron's mother. Fairfax Police Officer Shelley Broderick said Cameron and his mother could be anywhere. FCPD's First 5k Walk to Raise Awareness for Crime Victims

Event at Fairfax Corner honors 2013 National Crime Victims' Rights Week.

The Fairfax County Police Department's Victims Services Unit will host its first-ever 5k walk to raise awareness about crime victims in the county, and to honor 2013 National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, the FCPD announced recently.  The free event is hosted by the Victims Services Section of the Fairfax County Police Department and the Fairfax County Law Enforcement Foundation. It kicks off Sunday, April 21 at 4:30 p.m. at Fairfax Corner. Police invite the public to join the "caring professionals that support local victims of homicide, trauma, sexual and domestic violence, child physical and sexual abuse, stalking human trafficking and suicide as they walk together." Police: Herndon Woman Raped at Gunpoint in Wooded Area

Manassas-area police officers used a K-9 to search for the suspect, who is still at large, according to Prince William County Police.

A Herndon woman reported that she was raped at gunpoint in the Manassas area Thursday night, according to Prince William County Police.  Prince William County Police said they responded to the area of Maplewood Drive and Peakwood Court at 11:15 p.m. Thursday. The 31-year-old victim told police that she was walking to the home of a known acquaintance, when a strange man approached her. The man pulled out a handgun and forced the woman into a wooded area nearby, where he raped her, police said. The man reportedly fled on foot after the attack. Emergency responders took the woman to a local hospital, while police used a K-9 and helicopter to search for the suspect, according to police. Fairfax Gets New Acting Police Chief

Edwin Roessler will take over as acting chief as search for permanent Fairfax County police chief continues.

The Fairfax County Executive appointed Lt. Col. Edwin Roessler the acting chief of the Fairfax County Police Department on Tuesday afternoon, making him the third chief the department has seen in five months. Roessler will take over for Lt. Col. James Morris, who has been serving as acting chief since October 2012, when former chief David Rohrer was appointed deputy county executive for public safety. Morris was named chief of the Town of Vienna police last month; he starts next week. Roessler will receive an annual salary of $183,815. He starts Saturday. Roessler’s appointment comes after 24 years of law enforcement. He began his career in the New York City Department of Investigation before moving to Fairfax County, where he has served …

Car Chase, Crash Nets Chantilly Burglary Suspect

Investigators have connected the suspect, who lives in Fairfax County's Hybla Valley area off of Richmond HIghway, to burglaries in South Riding.

The man who led state and local law enforcement officers on a car chase Sunday morning before crashing near Sugarland Run has been connected with a series of burglaries including ones in Chantilly. Victor T. Ellis, 25, of the Hybla Valley area in Fairfax County, was captured in the Herndon area and now faces charges on three counts of burglary, one count of breaking and entering, two counts of grand larceny, one count of credit card larceny and one count of credit card fraud, according to a press release from the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office. FCPD charged Ellis with burglary, entering a vehicle to commit a crime, and petit larceny, according to a news release. Ellis was out on bond waiting to be sentenced for similar burglaries he was …

Sex Trafficking, Child Exploitation Case Connected to Herndon

A Georgia man has pled guilty in a human trafficking case that involved Herndon juveniles.

Edwin Barcus Jr., 27, of Georgia, pleaded guilty to running a commercial sex business that included juvenile girls, a number of them from Herndon. Other juveniles involved in the case are from Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida.   Barcus faces a mandatory minimum of 20 years for pleading guilty to engaging in child exploitation, and a maximum of life in prison. He will be sentenced on June 7. According to an FBI press release Barcus has been leading and organizing a criminal sex organization that has prostituted at least 23 women. At least four of those women were 16, and at least three were 17 when he began prostituting them. Barcus targeted juveniles who had run away from home or lived in a broken home. At …

Fairfax County Police Seeking Herndon Area Robbery Suspect

A man robbed the Sunoco gas station in the 13400 block of Coppermine Road in the early hours of Monday morning.

Fairfax County Police are seeking the public's assistance in locating the suspect who robbed the Sunoco gas station in the 13400 block of Coppermine Road on Monday.  At about 2:50 a.m. Monday, a man entered the business and implied he had a weapon. The suspect demanded money, the clerk gave him cash and he fled.  The Fairfax County police helicopter and several officers searched for the suspect but he was not found. The man is described as white with dark hari, in his early 20s, about 5 feet 9 inches to 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighing 140 to 170 pounds.  Anyone with information is asked to contact the Fairfax County Police Department at 703-691-2131 or Crime Solvers anonymously at 1-866-411-8477.

Police: Man Forced Out of Herndon Standoff With Pepper Gas

Fairfax County police release more details on eight-hour standoff with 45-year-old resident of Youngs Point Place. No hostages were held nor were shots fired.

The man who allegedly pointed a gun at police during a standoff Monday night in Herndon was ultimately forced out of his home using non-lethal pepper gas, Fairfax County police say, and is now being treated at a local hospital. On Tuesday, hours after the standoff ended, Fairfax County Police Department continued to release additional information on the police standoff in the 1500 block of Youngs Point Place. FCPD Spokeswoman Lucy Caldwell told Patch the standoff began when police responded to a distraught man just before 5 p.m. Monday. Herndon Man Involved in Youngs Point Place Standoff In Custody

As of 2:43 a.m. Tuesday, Fairfax County police have taken the reportedly armed man threatening to harm himself into custody.

The Herndon man involved in a more than eight-hour standoff with Fairfax County police was taken into custody in the early hours of Tuesday morning, according to county dispatchers.  The man, who lives in a home on Youngs Point Place in the Hiddenbrook neighborhood, was threatening to harm himself, and police believed he was armed. The incident began around 6 p.m. Monday.  Police and SWAT teams as well as fire and rescue units were on scene throughout the incident. Around midnight, FCPD spokeswoman Lucy Caldwell said the situation had been contained to the home and police believed the man was alone inside. Police Standoff Continues on Youngs Point Place in Herndon

Man, believed to be armed, threatens to harm himself, but Fairfax County police say there is no public threat at this time.

Fairfax County police continue to wait outside a Youngs Point Place home hours after responding to a report of a man reportedly armed and threatening to harm himself Monday evening. Just after midnight Tuesday, officers are now heading into their sixth hour outside of the Herndon home in an effort to get the resident to cooperate. The road has been blocked off since just after 6 p.m., when police first responded to the area. Department spokeswoman Lucy Caldwell told Patch there is no threat to the greater community at this time: The "situation is contained to the home" and police don't believe at this point there is anyone else inside, she said.  A SWAT team also responded to the area to assist officers, Caldwell said.
