There were 53 casket flags flown at Chestnut Grove for the Veterans Day Avenue of Flags.
The Avenue of Flags was flying from sunup to sundown on Sunday, as part of the American Legion Post 184's tribute to honor veterans. The American Legion Wayne M. Kidwell Post 184, along with volunteers from Herndon High School, assemble the Avenue of Flags each year as a tribute to veterans. This year there were 53 casket flags flown. The display is flown each Veterans Day and Memorial Day.
Observance and Avenue of Flags will be held Sunday, Nov. 11.
The American Legion, Wayne M. Kidwell Post 184, and the Town of Herndon will hold the annual Veterans Day Observance at the Veterans Memorial on the Town Green on Sunday, Nov. 11. The Town Green is located behind the Herndon Municipal Center at 777 Lynn St. The observance will begin at 11 a.m. The Herndon community is invited to attend the event. This year's guest speaker is Lt. Col. Debra M. Biely, a retired US Marine. The Herndon High School Junior Naval ROTC will form the color guard and present the Colors for the ceremony. The Herndon Womens Club will serve coffee and donuts after the observance, inside the Herndon Municipal Center.
