Police: Hit and Run Victim, Body Found in Creek Identified

Police identify body as Fitsum Abrha Gebretatios, husband of the hit and run victim, Simret Tekle Woldetensae.

A man found dead in a creek late Wednesday afternoon near the scene of a hit and run accident has been identified as 32-year-old Fitsum Abrha Gebretatios, Herndon Police said Thursday.  An autopsy is being conducted to determine the cause of death. It is unclear at this time how Gebretatios may have been connected to a hit and run accident that killed his wife shortly after midnight on Wednesday. Simret Tekle Woldetensae, 35, was pronounced dead after police discovered her body in a parking lot on the 600 block of Center Street. Nearby, a number of cars had been damaged when a 2007 black Toyota Camry smashed into the line of parked cars. Police say Gebretatios owned that black Camry, but could not say if he was driving at the time of the …

Dead Body Found Near Site of Fatal Hit and Run

Police said they found a deceased man in a creek near where Wednesday's fatal hit and run happened.

The Herndon Police Department reported that at about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, an officer who were searching the area near yesterday's fatal hit and run found a deceased, unidentified male.  The officers were looking in the area surrounding the 600 block of Center Street, where there was a fatal hit-and-run accident called in at about 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, along with another accident nearby that damaged a number of cars.  During the search Wednesday evening, officers found the deceased man in a creek that runs parallel to Center Street, through some woods and brush. Police Seek Person of Interest in Fatal Hit-and-Run

Police are trying to locate the victim's husband, who was driving the black Toyota Camry that was involved in the second collision on Center Street.

Herndon Police are asking for the public’s help in locating a person of interest in the investigation of the fatal hit-and-run that happened just after midnight Tuesday night in the 600 block of Center Street. Police are looking for Fitsum Abrha Gebretatios, 32, who is described as a black male, 5 feet 10 inches tall, about 170 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. Gebretatios is the owner of the black Toyota Camry that was located a short distance from the hit-and-run and was involved in a second collision, hitting a van that was pushed into a number of cars along Center Street. Police have not determined whether the Camry or another vehicle hit the woman in the parking lot.  Police say Gebretatios, the husband of the victim, is the …

Police: Black Toyota Belongs to Hit and Run Victim's Husband

Police say the black Toyota Camry that was involved in the second collision on Center Street belonged to the victim's husband.

Investigators have determined the identity of the woman killed in a hit-and-run accident that occurred just after midnight in the 600 block of Center Street, Herndon Police reported. Police said they aren’t able to release the woman’s identity to the public until next-of-kin are notified. Investigators also have determined that the black Toyota Camry involved in a second collision, just down the street from the fatal hit and run, belongs to the victim’s husband. The husband has not been located, however three young children were found in the woman’s residence. They are in good health and have been turned over to Child Protective Services.
