The church worshiped in a white church at the intersection of Elden and Center Streets until the late 1930s when it merged with another local Methodist church. The congregation moved to Bennett Street in 1987. HUMC focuses on worship, education, fellowship and outreach.

HUMC Preschool is a developmental preschool program housed in the church building, welcoming children from 2 1/2 to 5More years old (toilet trained) without regard to race, color, creed, or religion. The Preschool is licensedby the Department of Social Services under the Commonwealth of Virginia Code of Licensing; this helps to assure parents that childcare programs assume the responsibility for the supervision, protection, well being, and safety of a child. The goal at Herndon United Methodist Church Preschool is to provide a warm, nurturing environment, giving each child the room, guidance and encouragement to develop confidence through active participation in carefully designed learning activities. There will be opportunities to play and learn; to be curious creatively; and to feel success through achievement in an atmosphere of faith, hope, and love.
