I tried calling this evening, and the voicemail box was full. I hope that's a good sign that theRead More Venturas got all of the help that they needed? I am a local pilot, and I put a note out on the pilots board (the pilot of this aircraft is also part of that community), and got several responses offering to help, including cadets from the local Civil Air Patrol. I just want the Venturas to not associate "pilot" with bad stuff happening! Very glad that everyone is (physically) okay. The emotional part will come in time.

Does this really equate to the level of 'hero'? Look the word up, her effort, while laudable, isRead More not heroic. The media apparently lacks a wide vocabulary and misuses and over uses the term hero. All this serves to do is to cheapen the merit of those who truly merit the label hero.
Barb Welsh May 31, 2013 at 06:59 pm
he·ro /ˈhi(ə)rō/ Noun A person, typically a man, who is admired for courage or nobleRead More qualities. I did look up hero, and she sure does! And if you look at the context of the article, you will find the folks in the running are champions for the environment, which Carlin most certainly is. Lighten up, and don't be so derogatory!

Although not intended, this story also reminds us how needlessly dangerous cheerleading is. GroupRead More gymnastic and tumbling stunts performed on hardwood floors are bound to cause concussions and other serious injuries. There was a safer time when cheerleading had something to do with leading cheers.

Blessings to Lauren and her family for giving Monty a chance in this life. I have two dogs and IRead More just can't fathom how people can be so careless about a dog. There is simply no better love than the unconditional love and loyalty they give. Dogs are the best people I know.

Does the salary of $380,000.00 for the wiggley biggley of MDS bother you? Using your numbers we payRead More this guys salary for the year whoop tee do!
Barbara Glakas September 3, 2012 at 01:00 am
Nope. I assume you may be speaking of the organization’s CEO? I don’t expect people toRead More work for free, including those who run huge charity organizations. Seventy seven percent of the organization’s money goes toward research, services and education. And the organization (MDA, not MDS) gets the highest rating from the Better Business Bureau. Take note that my previous figures referred only to what the Fairfax County Fire department had raised. The Fill-the-Boot Campaign is a national campaign that goes on in many different counties all across the United States. So, all-in-all, the Fill-the-Boot Campaign has donated hundreds of millions of dollars to the cause of finding a cure for Muscular Dystrophy.

Free, he's working in the Presidents salary range, more then the VP or any member of Congress or theRead More military. What has he done but be a glorified panhandler. It's not millions but billions if we are talking about Jerry's kids and the fundraising from that quarter. What have they produced? Lots of dead mice and???? Help me out! Maybe they got a good rating because the rest of the organizations are worse. Hurrah for the fire department but if the police are derelict and allow these people to be a road hazard then how do you stop any freeloader from panhandling on the roadside. Give em a warning then get then out of the way!
