This Weekend: Holiday Model Train Show, ArtSpace Reception, Whiskey Tasting, Storybook Brunch and More

Plan your weekend with these fun events in the local area, including one on Monday evening.

Reception: ArtSpace Presents '30 Artists - 30 Years.' In its latest presentation, ArtSpace Herndon exhibits the work of printmakers. Discover Graphics Atelier is celebrating its 30th anniversary at ArtSpace Herndon with the exhibit '30 Artists - 30 Years.' The exhibit includes original hand-pulled prints from 30 current and former artists representing Discover Graphics Atelier over the past 30 years. The works of these artists include etchings, monotypes, lithographs, collographs, and linoleum cuts. The show will be on display through Jan. 12. A reception will be held this Saturday, Dec. 14, 5-7 p.m. Free, open to public. ArtSpace Herndon, 750 Center St.

Whiskey Tasting. Join the crew at O'Sullivan's Irish Pub's Whiskey Bar to welcome the 'Glenfiddich Ambassador' as he helps you explorer the finer details of the Glenfiddich line. Take the opportunity to ask questions about general whiskey knowledge, about the the distillation processs, or flavor profiles. $20 gets you three tasters of the '12,' '15' and '18' Glenfiddich products and a whiskey-inspired appetizer. Call the pub to get your name on the list before the event sells out. Space is limited. This Friday, Dec. 13 at 7 p.m. O'Sullivan's, 754 Elden St., Herndon.

Herndon's Holiday Model Train Show

 See amazing model trains and holiday-inspired villages. Trains provided by Northern Virginia N-Trak and Potomac Modular Crew. Show sponsored by Herndon Chamber of Commerce and Herndon Historical Society. Spread out over three locations: Herndon Municipal Center, 777 Lynn St.; W&OD Depot and Museum, 717 Lynn St.; and Herndon Caboose. Tour the caboose and museum, see W&OD Railroad Memorabilia, and see a special program by Sterling Park Amateur Radio Club, with a signal that will allow guests to broadcast their voice across the world. Free. This Saturday, Dec. 14, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, Dec. 15, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

A Storybook Holiday Brunch
Holiday fun includes a visit with Santa, crafts, brunch, and a reading of a holiday story by a special guest. $14 per adult/child pair. Saturday, Dec. 14, 10 a.m. to noon. Herndon Community Center, 814 Ferndale Ave.

Jacob Marley's Christmas Carol. This one-man show retells the classic story but focuses on Scrooge’s departed, doomed and chained business partner, Jacob Marley. Tuesday, Dec. 3 through Sunday, Dec. 29. NextStop Theatre Company. Industrial Strength Theater, 269 Sunset Park Drive, Herndon. Tickets starting at $20.

The 12 Dates of Christmas. A single woman navigates the holiday season. A new holiday classic for anyone who has ever struggled to find holiday cheer during ‘the most wonderful time of the year.” Wednesday, Dec. 4 through Sunday, Dec. 29. NextStop Theatre Company. Industrial Strength Theater, 269 Sunset Park Drive, Herndon. Tickets starting at $20. 


And coming up on Monday...

Herndon High Winter Choir Concert. Get into the holiday spirit and join Herndon High for its Winter Sampler Choir Concert, featuring all the school's vocal groups, including the Concert Choir, Women's Chorale, Vocal Jazz, Shebees, 
Bennett Street Boys, Heatwave Show Choir and the Madrigals. Directed by Dana and Jim Van Slyke, this event is fun for the entire family! Monday, Dec. 16 at 7 p.m. Herndon High School Auditorium, 700 Bennett St.
