Celebrate the anniversary of the Bill of Rights. 
Celebrate the 227th birthday at the Herndon Fortnightly Library this Tuesday, Sept. 24 at 6:30 p.m. Learn about today's freedom of speech issues and challenges with movies, discussions and lectures, hosted by ACT! For America's Northern Virginia chapter. Free.

Learn about opportunities for unemployed veterans. NOVA's Adult Career Pathways program is holding a seminar for unemployed, honorably discharged veterans this Wednesday, Sept. 25 at 1831 Wiehle Ave., 3rd floor, in Reston. Public hearing with Town Council on project to light the W&OD Trail. The Town Council will vote Tuesday night on whether to approve a project to light a 3,20-foot stretch of the W&OD Trail that extends from Ferndale Avenue to Van Buren Street, through Herndon. The Town has received a matching grant from the Commonwealth to help cover the costs. If you want to learn more about the project and share your thoughts with the Council, come to the public hearing at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers at the Municipal Center, 777 Lynn Street in downtown. Learn more about candidates for local offices for the upcoming election. Qualified candidates for Sheriff and State Delegates for Districts 36, 37, 40, 67, and 86 (Herndon) are invited to make brief remarks followed by a Q&A session this Wednesday, Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. at the Sully Governmental Center, 4900 Stonecroft Blvd. in Chantilly. Jointly sponsored by the League of Women Voters of the Fairfax Area and the Sully District Council of Citizen Associations. Bring the family for an afternoon of fun at HarvestFest! Bring the whole family to HarvestFest, a fun, fall-themed afternoon of live entertainment. Enjoy the giant walking scarecrow, a juggling unicyclist, DJ music, and free 
activities such as face painting, glitter tattoos and pumpkin painting. LA Boxing and Down Dog Yoga will present fitness demos, Finnegan’s will host tastings of food and fall brews on their patio, and many Woodland Park Crossing 
merchants will offer food, beverages, specials and more. It all takes place this Saturday, Sept. 28 from 2-4 p.m.
