LINK Seeking Volunteers for Evening Food Delivery

Volunteers will pick up food at Trader Joe's in Reston on Friday or Saturday evenings and bring it to LINK's Herndon food pantry.

LINK, a Christian, all-volunteer organization, is in need of volunteers to pick up food from and deliver it to the organization's Herndon food pantry.

Each Friday and Saturday night Trader Joe's bags up food that is being donated to LINK. LINK delivers emergency food to families who need assistance in Herndon, Sterling and Ashburn. Volunteers will pick up the food at Trader Joe's at 9 p.m. and bring it to LINK's pantry. The volunteers would also need to move items that need refrigeration into the refrigerators and freezers in the pantry, and items that don't need refrigeration can be left for volunteers to sort the next morning.

The food donated by Trader Joe's provides items for families that are not typically donated by individuals. Items include fresh produce, salads and meat that LINK is able to share with its clients who would otherwise not receive such items.

The delivery is a great opportunity for a student who would like to give back to the community or individuals interested in finding a way to serve during evening hours. The time commitment varies depending on how much food is available, but is typically one to one and a half hours each Friday or Saturday night.
