Deltek Moves Into New Home in the Herndon Area

Deltek's recent acquisitions left the company searching for a new space to put its stamp on and call its own.

Employees at Deltek have been spending the last few weeks settling into the company’s new office space, just south of the Town of Herndon.

The company, which was founded in Northern Virginia, has made acquisitions recently that resulted in a jumble of different office spaces throughout the area. The different parts of Deltek are now residing under one roof just off of Sunrise Valley Drive.

Deltek Chief Marketing Officer Kevin Iaquinto said they are committed to being where their customers are, which is why the decision was made to stay in the Herndon area. Companies they work with include Raytheon, Lockheed Martin and many local and worldwide architectural and engineering firms.

“For us it’s a great opportunity to be close to our customers,” Iaquinto said.

Iaquinto said the area is also a fertile recruiting area in terms of the talent pool and they can find highly skilled and talented employees. There are about 650 employees working in Deltek’s new building, located at 2291 Wood Oak Dr., and about 1,700 employees worldwide, he said.

The new location was an attractive one because of its proximity to the toll road, airport and other amenities that help them do business, Iaquinto said. The other bonus was they had the opportunity to finish the space in a way that worked for the company, with new furnishings, layouts and spaces that allow for collaboration and more.

The building uses a lot of natural light and windows and the process was done with commitment to sustainable engineering. Iaquinto said they expect to attain a silver LEED status, which stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design.

Holly Kortright, senior vice president of human resources at Deltek, said the company is also expanding its reach in supporting the local community, as well as the region.

Deltek has a philanthropy program that works to help underserved populations with technology through efforts such as Year Up and Equal Footing, that is a big focus for them as a technology company, Kortright said.

The company works to promote wellness among its employees and has partnered with the American Heart Association and raised funds for juvenile diabetes. Additionally, many of their employees and customers are or have been in the military so they support military families through local organizations as well, Kortright said.

Elaine Hess, said Deltek has also moved from holding a company party to holding a philanthropy party. Offices in other locations throughout the world find projects that work for them, but the headquarters holds an event where employees come together work for many foundations in one day.

Hess said they use a ballroom with different stations, each station helping a different organization. Employees might put bikes together for a local charity at one station, and put together backpacks full of supplies for children at another station. This year’s event included a Wegman’s station where employees assembled bags of food for Reston Interfaith.

“Our folks love it so much more than the holiday party,” Kortright said. She said every year the employees respond positively and say they could have done more. The event also connects employees to organizations they may not have known about and some continue volunteering for them on their own time, she said.

Deltek’s annual holiday party for its clients has turned into a philanthropic event too, Kortright said. The event raises money for Toys for Tots, the Community Foundation of Northern Virginia and Year Up.
