Family Volunteer Day Monday, Jan. 21, 2013

Sign up to volunteer with your family and make a difference in your community.

Volunteering as a family not only helps to make a real difference in the world around you, but also teaches your children a sense of civic responsibility, compassion and a desire to help others.  Figuring out how to get started and the best family-friendly volunteer activities, however, can be a bit overwhelming.  Consider the following….

Volunteering takes up our time, energy, and sometimes, money. It can be hard work. It can find us doing and seeing new things, which can be challenging and even a little scary. So why does anyone even go there?

There are a number of reasons people volunteer.  To begin, people can make a difference where someone or something needs help. If people never help each other and only care about themselves, the world becomes a crueler, sadder place. But when we volunteer our time, money, or talents, we help make our planet a better, happier home where people work together to make life easier for all. Also, volunteering is good for YOU.  People who become volunteers usually lead richer, happier, and more satisfying lives than those who don't volunteer.  By volunteering you can make new friends; gain skills, experiences, and networks that will help you later in life; feel like you’re part of a community, and just have some fun – just for starters. Here is some general info.  For some specific ideas for family community volunteering visit this page.
