Towel, washcloth drive for Embry Rucker

Clearview Elementary Girl Scouts collect towels, washcloths for Embry Rucker shelter.

Girl Scouts from Clearview Elementary School have completed a number of service projects for local charities and shelters over the years, and this month they're holding a drive for Reston Interfaith.

Starting this week, a collection box will be available for the public to donate new and gently used towels and washcloths, which will be given to the Embry Rucker shelter in Reston. The drive takes place April 10 through the 20th.

The participating troops from SU 51-11 are:  Daisies (681, 1339, 1884), Brownies (753, 4108), Juniors (combined troop 2677) and Cadettes (1255), according to Marcy Brizzolara, the school's troop organizer.

"They have all shared the work on this, from making posters and collection boxes. to talking about it on the school news broadcast, to helping collect towels and store them until the drive is over (the last two will be worked on once the drive actually begins).  Last year's blankets came from the Clearview community as well as some caring individuals on freecycle.  The girls would love to collect even more towels this year for the homeless shelter," Brizzolara said.

"We would love to get the word out to patch readers; if they want to help with this very worthy cause, it would be great!" Brizzolara added.
