Girl Scouts Rally for Cookies

About 300 Girl Scouts attend Association 51's Cookie Rally

Girl Scout cookies are here, and local Girl Scouts volunteers recently held a cookie rally to help Scouts prepare for the largest girl-led business in the country!

About 300 Daisies, Brownies and Juniors participated in the Association 51 Cookie Rally in early January. At the event, the Girl Scouts learned about this year's cookie flavors, including the special 100th Anniversary Savannah Smiles, created in honor of our founder, Juliette Gordon Low, who started Girl Scouts in 1912 in Savannah, Georgia.

The crisp lemon cookie with powdered sugar (which may remind some cookie fans of an earlier cookie, Lemon Coolers) joins our all-star lineup of Thin Mint, Samoa, Tagalong, Do-si-Do, Trefoil, Dulce de Leche and Thank U Berry munch. For a description of each flavor, visit our baker's website, Little Brownie Bakers.

Besides learning about the flavors, other rally activities included creating sales tools for use as they went door to door earlier in the season and for upcoming booth sales, and learning rules and tips to stay safe while selling.

The annual rally supports our local Scouts in successfully implementing the national Girl Scout cookie program, which teach girls about goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills and business ethics. All of the money earned from cookie sales stays within the Girl Scout Council of the Nation's Capital. The troop also earns money from the sales, and they use it for their activities, on community service and leadership projects, travel to destinations near and far, for events for girls in our community, and more.
