Girl Scouts Help Kenya Orphans

Girl Scout Troop 3354 helped Kenya orphans.

Touching Heart, a nonprofit organization based in Herndon that focuses on inspiring children to have empathy and compassion for others in need, often works with Girl Scouts on community projects.

Here's a recent example, as told by Touching Heart co-founder Helen Yi:

Touching Heart had a wonderful workshop with Girl Scout Troop #3354. The girls learned about the country of Kenya and its people. They were particularly inspired to learn about an orphanage that now shelters around 50 kids who were neglected and endured hardship. The girls wrote thoughtful letters and made signs for a bake sale to raise money for the orphans.

One of our friends visited Kenya during the winter break and delivered the letters and the money raised to the orphanage. The beautiful letter you see in the picture was handed to a child in Kenya. The orphans were grateful and excited to receive letters from America. In return, they made bracelets for their new Girl Scout friends. It was our privilege to see children experience the joy of giving and of feeling empathy for others. They learn to appreciate their blessings, which they discover is a gift for themselves.
