Today Marks the Autumnal Equinox and Start of Fall

Days, nights won't be equal in length until Wednesday.

Enjoy your last few hours of summer.

You've probably already noticed it's getting dark out earlier in the evenings and it may still be dark when you wake up.

The official start of the fall season is at 10:49 a.m. Saturday.

The first day of fall coincides with the fall equinox or autumnal equinox, when the "sun crosses the celestial equator going southward; it rises exactly due east and sets exactly due west," according to the Old Farmer's Almanac.

Sunrise over Northern Virginia is at 6:57 a.m. There's a chance of showers in the afternoon and sunset will be at 7:05 p.m.

The day and night will be exactly the same length on Wednesday, when sunrise will be at 7 a.m. and sunset will be at 7 p.m. The 12-hour day and night doesn't coincide with the autumnal equinox thanks to the refraction of light (more details here).

What's your favorite thing about fall? Or what's your least favorite thing about summer?
