National Team Wins Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League All-Star Game

Herndon Braves' Kyle Toomey was named MVP.

The Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League held its All-Star game and homerun derby on Wednesday night at Shirley Povich Field in Bethesda, MD, with the National Team winning the All-Star game.

Five Herndon Braves played on the National Team, which won the game 9-3, including infielder Kyle Toomey of Woodbridge, infielder James Vasquez of Palm City, Fla., outfielder Jake Rowland of Decatur, Tenn., left-handed pitcher, Mike Kaufmann of Dix Hills, N.Y., and catcher Weston Walker of Leesburg. Toomey was named MVP. 

Head coach for the National Team was Sal Colangelo of the Bethesda Big Train. Assistant coaches included Frank Velleggia of the Baltimore Redbirds, Josh Eachues of the Silver Spring-Takoma Thunderbolts, Eric Williams of the Herndon Braves and Adam Gladstone of the Southern Maryland Nationals.

Head coach for the American Team was Corey haines of the Alexandria Aces. Assistant coaches were Bruce Hall of the Vienna River Dogs, Arland Freeman of the DC Grays, Rick Prince of the Rockville Express and Tim Norris of the Youse's Orioles.
